  1. As for Avery vs Stockwell, I've seen both play a lot of games... and JR is the better POST player and its not even close if we're talking about a true post player.

Avery has super good, raw, athletic ability, but Stockwell puts his back to the basket like Clyde said and goes to work (ala, a poor man's Danny Fortson). Avery gets up and down the floor like a gazelle and jumps out of the gym (2 things Stockwell isn't going to do).

  2. With all due respect ennam_Jv what leads you to believe Highlands has not improved? I have seen them recently and both Highlands bigs can be dominant. Ahlfeld has also gotten more aggressive at the guard position and is scoring more consistently. They have 3 of the better players in the Region on that team. I do not know what Conner has though so I cant compare.

I'll be at the game if they meet again this year. We'll see firsthand.

  3. Who is the next big thing in the middle school, some of these middle school kids have a high IQ for the game? Some of these kids you can see are getting the proper training!

So much can change between middle school and HS I think its a little silly to go on and on about these kids in these threads. When my kid played middle school ball there were quite a few "next big thing" kids playing then, who do not even play now, as well as those who never kept improving. The Brandon Hattons and CVHs of middle school basketball are rare. These kids need to be focusing extra hard on developing their game on an individual level. A number of these kids are good because of the system they are in, or because the competition isn't so great. And with the AAU change its going to hurt a lot of these kids more than you think its going to help them when they get to HS. Freshman year they will start seeing the much feared "holdbacks" beating up on their kids in AAU again... lol, would love to be able to sit next to some of these parents when their little Johnny ain't quite able to cut the mustard in HS.

  4. I disagree. Highlands went to Conner and won convincingly. Went to Pius and were whooped. I think that this just means that it is an open region and multiple teams have a very good chance to win.

Not trying to bust your bubble, but Conner would smash Highlands if they played again. I believe the game you are referring to was just the 2nd game of the year. Conner has had their big improve significantly from that game... and Conner did not put the press on you either. Script definitely gets flipped if they play again.

  5. If my feet were put to the fire right now, it would be:

    1. Mason County

    2. Clark County

    3. Scott (different team w/Schneider and healthy)

    4. Campbell County

Jury still out on Harrison County.

When do these 2 teams play? Their contrasting styles should provide an entertaining game. Will Scott's high scoring theatrics win, or GRC's smothering defense.

(PS: I'm not driving down to GRC to watch it, so please tell me they will be playing at Scott... 10 minutes from my house :) )

  6. Just curious how this is a warped perspective. I mean he went to Scott Co and did not do it properly and was ruled ineligible. Now if this was a living situation or whatever, it is not like the coaches involved don't know the rules. You have to make sure it is all legit as an AD and coach. So they broke rules now they get to go back and act like they did nothing wrong and get rewarded by getting to play for the original team he left. I am sure the kid is a great kid and the parents were trying to do what they thought was best. But now a days kids think they can do whatever they want with no fall back or discipline. If this was Trinity or Lex Cath. they would have been blasted and called cheaters, etc. I am glad the kid gets to play because it sounds like he is a good kid, but our rules seem to be made for every loophole possible. More and more now a days it seems this way.

Using the words "found guilty" takes it to a whole different place.

  7. I guess I witnessed a different game than ennam did. The so called goon squad was the same group that cut the Dixie lead to four in the second quarter. Perhaps that's why Faust played them in the fourth quarter. Also I believe Rabe was playing when St. Henry made that run.

I've never before seen a bunch of 5'9", 165 lb kids called goons in high school but I guess that's in the eye of the beholder. They were giving up an average of at least four inches and thirty pounds across the board but they were quick and aggressive on defense and offense.

From a St. Henry fan perspective I didn't notice the referees changing the way they called the game but that's subjective.

All of that said, Dixie has a very good team and an excellent defense.

Wish I would have recorded this game.

I can emphatically say that Rabe got hurt at the very start of the 4th quarter and Dixie was up 15 or 16.

I can also say with 100% accuracy that the coach for St Henry was instructing his players to give hard fouls and to be careful not to give an intentional foul.

I lost all respect for St Henry that night. The player stomping on Rabe's ankle while he was on the ground and then laughing about it will not be forgotten.

Also, the official score keeper for St Henry showed lots of class when he turned around and called one of our fans an "idiot" for yelling at a ref's call.

There's no love between these teams... can't wait to see them play again in Districts.
