Why can't you compare a private school and public school? They play against each other on the field so why not compare? You make a great point with Mac Whitaker in that you can have a both a great mentor and a great coach and you don't have to choose between one or the other. There are coaches that have coached in private schools and then moved to public schools and vice versa and have successful at both. They seem to set high standards for their players and hold them accountable. You can do that in both private and public schools.

I don't disagree that he worked with hitters but nothing close to what was needed with pitchers. If he couldn't do pitching then he should have had someone on staff. You don't know where my info comes from so you shouldn't be so quick. If I'm not mistaken I believe you didn't let your son play on the coach's summer team.

They sound remarkably alike...both like to brag on one particular player....sounds like a disgruntled parent.

When was that individual instruction offered? During the season there was no communication among the coaching staff nor among the players when someone would pitch in a game or pitch a bullpen. Position players were brought in to pitch in games that had never even pitched in practice. The starting shortstop (with sore arm) pitched in jv games, really? You expect pitchers to stay on some type of schedule unless you want a bunch of hurt arms. Oh wait, that does sound like their staff.

I agree time will tell the truth. I do hope Coach Comb well at Wolfe County.

Guess I just have a higher expectation than rants and fits of rage from a coach. Maybe I'm naive but I still think you can win and not have to resort to that. I still have faith in coaches like Keith Galloway at LCA that are excellent teachers as well as role models for their players.

More misinformation from the source. They are state employees and their salaries are public information. They were both hired on the teacher's pay scale which takes into consideration their rank and years of service plus and extra duty stipends such as coaching, department heads, etc. The $188k makes for more juicy gossip than the mid $60k salary that he really gets.

If you don't know how to develop pitchers then I would think you would get a pitching coach who does. A player doesn't understand mechanics, pick offs, changing speeds, changing locations, developing new pitches, etc. if someone doesn't help them. This was simply a weakness with Montgomery county in the past...anyway... best wishes for success to Coach Combs.

Seems like it would be more appropriate to pull a player aside and discuss a base running mistake than to leave 3rd base coaching box in the middle of an inning and go directly into the clubhouse and beat a chair with a bat while the game is going on. Mont Co dugout had 30 players in it while the chair gets the beat down. What lesson was taught there? If that's considered good coaching then you're right I don't know much about that. If the AD has nothing to do with the success of the teams then why worry about who the AD is?

Practices were very structured but very little individual instruction. Players have commented that they do more in 2 hour practices with the new coach than 4 hours under previous. No instruction given to pitchers or catchers previously. How do you expect to win anything if you don't spend time developing pitching? Any pitchers who wanted coaching had to go elsewhere and pay for it. I know for a fact he has cussed players and went into the clubhouse and beat a chair with a bat during a game last year. I also know how many applicants there were for the job..not all were interviewed but more than 3 were interviewed for the job. What qualifications? There are no formal qualifications to be a baseball coach...teacher yes...coach no. Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Not sure about the source's rant about the athletic director and that coaches won't play for him. Boy's basketball is preseason choice by many to win 10th region, girl's basketball is preseason to repeat, football is 4 -1 thus far, volleyball has a strong record in midseason, boy's soccer is strong...seems to indicate things are going well at Montogomery. By the way Heffington is still the athletic director. Since when should a coach be permitted to cuss players or destroy equipment in a fit of rage? If a coach cannot control themselves how can they control a team?

The source missed on this one. About 20 applicants for the position and he was the only one offered the job because he actually had a plan on running a program for the benefit of the players. He says his emphasis is on teamwork, execution, strong defense and pitching. Seems like a different plan from where Montgomery County has been. His practice looks alot more like instruction and he hasn't cussed any players or destroyed any benches yet.

Pitching has to be developed. If Montgomery Co. hasn't developed pitching what does that say about the coach?
