  1. As a former player from the Shamrocks, Bulldogs, Crimson and Tiger era of the late 1990's, I am happy to see this kind of parity return to these games. Manual and Male were getting throttled by Stx and Trinity for a period of time in the 2000's. Now the tables have turned. It's fun to watch everything come back, full circle. I agree that it makes 6A football that much more exciting. And don't count out McCracken County or Meade County. There are 6-8 teams that can make it happen come November. It's better than the 2000-20012 seasons when Trinity and (maybe St. X) dominated. Football is fun again for the big boys! Imagine the path that the Super District might have to take to the crown? Imagine IF MALE/STX/MANUAL/TRINITY play one game and then have to play one of their own, and then again, and then Scott County and then another contender? Now that's fun. Take note. Everyone thought Male won the State Championship last year when they beat St. X and trinity in back to back weeks (hmmm hmmm, twice in a single season). BUT, Scott country knocked them off and then Meade County was one NFL instant replay away from an epic 6A championship. This year, the set up is even better. I love it.
  2. I haven't read any of the thread, but this reminds me of Nelson County in the late 90's and Boone County in prior years. Scott County broke through in 2013 with numbers, athletes and great coaching. Everyone argues that the privates have an advantage in football based on the numbers, but the public schools divide their resources into multiple schools with fewer resources. We'll have to play the wait and see game but history says this isn't a good move for athletic success. Imagine if Trinity, Saint X and other schools divided their talent, coaching and resources in a similar manner. This is why the public versus private debate is a moot point. The privates' and other perennial powers (BG, Boyle, Highlands, etc.) don't divide. They build and have alumni buy-in. I HATE this for KY football (and other sports). Without the divide concept, Boone County, Scott County, Nelson County (include other schools) would be able to contend with the traditional power programs. If you want to argue this point, reference the state champions from the early 1980's until the late 1990's as proof. Regarding 4A/6A, Trinity and Saint X didn't dominate until other school systems started to divide their resources (funds, alumni support, coaching staff, facilities, etc.). On the other hand, I can't comment on the academic success of the schools districts that chose to divide their resources. After all, these young men are Student-Athletes. It's a tough call...
  3. I am interested to see who the BGP nation believes are the best Running Backs in Jefferson County. Please include the name and school and a reason why you believe your candidate deserves to be listed among the elite. The player's grade does not matter, just his potential impact on this season. I'll throw one name out to begin the discussion. Donald Brooks from Trinity. He will be a senior and has experience, ability to catch, run and is a home run threat on every touch. Who else?
  4. I'm really, really hoping that all StX, Trinity, Highlands and "other" fans will take the lead on this thread and write POSITIVE comments about her or his team. I am a Big Tiger fan but think respect is due to a worthy opponent. I don't want to call out the "negative posters" but please try to post positive comments about your team, friends and loved ones. My favorite part about the X-T rivalry is the fact that everyone HATES us when we move beyond college. We are all brothers. Sometimes I am ashamed to read the posts that adults write on a HS message board. Let's celebrate the mega-Kentucky rivalry we all participate in. It really is amazing. 35-40k +??? Wow. Kentucky? Wow. What a blessing. Still hate you, Rocks, haha!!
  5. ...back to the thread, great game between both teams. Looked more like a small division varsity game than a freshman game. Trinity was well disciplined and coached and has tremendous athletes. Saint X had chances, fumble on 1st and goal at the three yard line in first quarter and 2nd and goal interception in second quarter. Another dropped pass in the end zone to end the game. Trinity has some monster athletes. Number 27 could start for many varsity programs. Hurdled two defenders and ran for another 5 yards. But penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct for the hurdle (I still don't get that penalty). I'm a tiger fan and it was an amazing play. Two 80+ yard TD plays for the Rocks on third down. Great plays and they were back breakers. Saint x was out manned but it was a good game to watch. Proud of the Tigers for fighting until the end. Trinity has some great athletes. Along with good coaching, discipline and accountability Trinity will be a force in the next two to three years. I don't root for the rocks but they have a nice set of athletes and a nice coaching compliment. Fun Game. Not many 15 year old mistakes. Just a couple of turnovers, minimal flags and good sportsmanship. I love this rivalry.
  6. I'm not familiar with Kentucky's "market" for coaching high school sports. How much do head coaches make in football, typically? Is there a public school standard pay? Do private schools pay less? I was under the impression that private school teachers make a lower wage compared to public school teachers with the same credentials, experience and responsibilities. Does Kentucky have any schools where the football coach is paid to be just a coach football only and not have any other job responsibilities? If so, do any of these coaches make 6 figure range money?
  7. Probably the best original post (non-game related) that I have ever read on this site. Every coach should strongly urge their players to play multiple sports. "Strength" dominates all sporting activities. Strength = flexibility + weight + speed, not just how much a player weighs or how much weight he can lift off the ground. I would much rather coach a linebacker who has worked his tail off in the weight room and improved his lung capacity and lateral mobility on the basketball court, instead of the same player who only lifted weights and put on an extra 5 lbs of mass. I'm appreciative that CoachJ decided to provide actual examples of his theory (i.e. names and participation).
  8. Xgrad-JAG Dad...that avatar always gives me a good chuckle when I read your posts. Next year I might go with TGrad-ArmyMom and chime in with Tinity jabs during my coffee breaks. Thanks for the entertainment again this year.
  9. Keep them coming AT...I'm sitting in class and it's killing me not to be there for this one...although it's a long game, I'm proud of the Tigers for coming out strong. Any updates are much appreciated!!
  10. I second that sentiment...let it go...stay on your own thread...don't post a response for pure reaction purposes...don't pass the buck or blame someone else for starting it...but "let it go" works best probably. Actually, I'm surprised those kind of posts even pass the Guru's rules. Why is a Trinity fan who is posting a comment just to start trash talking allowed and where is the line?
  11. If an out of state team goes to Cincy to play you should plan to play against the other team and the local officials. It comes with the territory. Trinity is going to have to beat them, not just try to win the game. It appears they are beating them at this point, at least on offense. Good luck Rocks.
