  1. This one was all Lady Jackets from tip to horn.  Nicholas County's stifling trap defense gave the Fillies trouble all night long, leading to several transition baskets. As @Randy Parker stated, Freshman Maggie Simons led all scorers with 24.  Bailee Hudgins paced Harrison with 9.

Nicholas County (21-10) advances to the 38th District Championship on Thursday night at 7:00 against the Pendleton County LadyCats, as well as next weeks 10th Region Tournament at Bourbon County.

Harrison County end their season at 9-22.  They lose no seniors from this team, so things should be on an upswing next year.

  2. Final from Falmouth

Big win for the Wildcats in the final regular season game for both teams.  The first 10 minutes were a back and forth affair, with the Greendevils tied it at 19 apiece.  After that, the rout was on.  Pendleton County went on a 39-9 run to put the game out of reach.  12 Wildcats dented the scoring column, led by Alex Beyst's career high 30, with the final free throw cementing his spot as the 21st member of Pendleton County's 1000 point club. Aden Merrill (11), Austin Kirsch (11), and Hunter Jack (10) all reached double digits for the Wildcats (11-16).  Mason Johnson led Dayton (5-22) with 21 points, including 6 three pointers.

Dayton is back in action Monday night against Bellevue in the opening round of the 36th District Tournament at Newport HS.

Pendleton County will get their 3rd shot at Nicholas County in the 38th District Semifinals on Tuesday night in Carlisle.

Well this game has always intrigued me as the two small Catholic schools of Campbell County do battle in the last regular season game.  Since the mid 90's this has been definitely a rivalry, normally 2 really good teams playing.

I am shocked when I looked at records.  What has happened?  Are both team struggling with talent level?  Not enough players in Campbell County to allow both schools to be strong?

NCC enters the game at 7-21.  In looking at their schedule though they have played some pretty top flight teams.

Brossart currently stands at 3-23 and on a 20 game losing streak that includes a recent double digit loss to Bellevue.  They have Lloyd tonight so I assume they may be 3-24 by game time.

    Anyone?

I HATE to be that guy (especially on something like this), but the Brossart streak is actually 22.  I don't see it stopping tomorrow night.

Agree with your list but Newport should be in the first tier without a doubt.

I’ll include Cooper in the 2nd tier for the tourney as next week will be the first time all season they will have their top 5 players on the floor all at once. They have already beaten Cov Cath and played Newport within 6 points without their best player who just returned today after being injured for 2 months.

I was coming to make both of these points.  Good call!

I love Fleming and Buddy too, excellent coach, beating Ashland and Boyd in a 7 day span has to be extremely rare down through the years but let’s pump the brakes a little and remember BOTH of these wins were AT Fleming, a very tough place to play AND Fleming did lose at Rowan by 18 just about 10 days ago

Will have to beat them on back to back nights (unless they draw one of them in the 1st round)

Go-o-o-o-llee!!   Buddy is flexing his Panther muscle as of late. Taking down the region favorites in two consecutive weeks is impressive. With Rowan pushing Ashland to overtime it seems we can throw the idea of a two horse race out the window. Let's see if this is for real or if it has just snapped the two giants from their late season slumber. Fun times!

That was win #399 in Buddy Biggs' career.  It also ran the home winning streak for the Panthers to 24.

The next opponent: Mason County.  Sometimes the storylines write themselves.

Maggie is terrific, and she played AAU with a lot of those talented freshmen in the 9th (and SK) growing up, so everyone in NKY is well aware of what an outstanding player she is!  So happy for her success.

She got those 32 in the flow of the game...never forced anything, but made sure the ball was in her hands when it got close.

The 10th is really blessed with some young talent:  Maggie, Kennedy Stamper (GRC), Lily Ashcraft and Hannah Spaulding (Pendleton), and Lexi Young (Mason Co) to name just a few.

  8. Final from Falmouth

Maggie Simons showed why she's one of the best young player in the area and led the Lady Jackets to a win over Pendleton County.  The Ladycats would get the deficit down to a single possession on several occasions, but could not take the lead.  Simons led all scorers with 32, including 12/17 from the line.  Tessa Humphries would add 16 for Nicholas County.  Lily Ashcraft paced Pendleton County with 20 and Hannah Spaulding and Kearstin Mayer added 16 and 12, respectively. We could have a repeat of this matchup in 2 weeks in the 38th District Championship.

    Nicholas County 20-11-13-18-62

    Pendleton County 11-17-09-16-52

  9. Final from Falmouth

The Wildcats started off hot, but foul trouble on Austin Kirsch would be their undoing.  Preston Blake took advantage of a smaller Pendleton County lineup and dominated the paint in the 2nd quarter, scoring 10 of his game high 18 points. Wyatt Clark overcame a slow start to finish with 13 for the Bluejackets. Aden Merrill led the Wildcats with 18.  The win moves Nicholas County to 4-1 in district play. A win next Tuesday against Robertson County would force a tiebreaking coin flip between them and Harrison County for the #1 seed in the district.

    Nicholas County 05-13-21-16-55

    Pendleton County 11-10-13-17- 51
