  1. Garrard county defeating Beechwood in '97 to start the season. Could be wrong on that year. Beechwood went on to win it all. If not for Harrodsburg Garrard would have gotten a couple of state titles somewhere from 93-97 imo.
  2. I am pretty sure Boyle had won 4 in a row? Didn't Highlands defeat Boyle in the regular season as well?
  3. I guess Collins winning against Highlands this year in the state championship is an upset. Although I thought Collins was a much better team and more talented. They just didn't know it for sure and Highlands didn't know it either. Great game to watch.
  4. That is why I love high school football. It is real!
  5. Allen-County Scottsville gave Boyle County all they wanted in the state championship game. Not sure of the exact year but it was recent.
  6. I saw Bell Co. in 2008 win the game against Knox Central running a shovel pass late in the game. It was a very unexpected call. A great call! Dudley Hilton at his finest. Bell County went on to win the State that year.
  7. I'm not sure. It seems like Simon Kenton got to the championship in the last several years?
  8. Yes. I thought that Cooper team looked impressive in the state championship game. Nice info. It is fun to see the underdog get there.
  9. Russell knocked off the pre-Harrodsburg merger Mercer Co. team at home in a close battle. What was interesting was the Mercer's best player couldn't go and both teams were old school 3 back offenses. Russell went on to win the championship. Mercer met them again the following year only to avenge that loss in the state championship game. They had a little more speed the following year but it was another war.
  10. In and around 2010 maybe. I drove up to Paintsville to watch a classic war between these two. Johnson Central looked to be in trouble but drove down late with a chance to win the game. They ran a play-action pass from around the 8 yard line that was wide open. The player I won't name dropped the pass that would have won the game. Highlands went on to win the State Championship. I was sick for J.C. I think Towles was the QB for Highlands that night.
  11. I also witnessed a phenomenal game between Bell County and Highlands at Log Mountain in either 2004 or 2005 in which Highlands was said to have one of the greatest defenses to ever take the field for them. Bell was up to the challenge and looked to have scored what could have been the winning touchdown late in the game only to have the ball come out as the runner crossed the goal line. It was very controversial. From my angle I thought Bell Co. scored. It was funny to see all the Rockastle people there pulling against Bell. That was another rivalry and I guess still is ongoing!
  12. Also, I loved that Russell team that got there twice around 2006. Hard nosed kids and coaching. Seems like they won the first one and lost the second time.
  13. I really liked how Beechwood back in the 90's defeated Harrodsburg who had tons of talent. Don't know who I would call the underdog but Beechwood played so strong on fundamentals they overcame the talent factor.
  14. Made it to the championship game as the underdog. Maybe they won or lost. Doesn't matter. What did you like about the team and or that game (style, coaching etc.)?
  15. Another reason I love to watch teams like Belfry, Bell and Johnson Central is that old school style.
  16. To summarize what I said in an earlier post. The coaches that show up day in and out regardless of talent and work at it because they love the process and the kids are what I call coaches. Not a slight against any coach that is blessed with great talent. You got to have it to win the big games against the big boys. Many great coaches have the work ethic and the talent. But there are great ones that don't have the support and or talent that do nice work in their program. My hat is off to anyone that can coach in today's climate. To much I and not enough we in sports for me.
  17. Dudley was able to do similar things at Bourbon County that he did at Bell Co. with average talent.
  18. Griffiths - Green Co. Mofield - Meade Co. McKee - Scott Co. Larkey - Rock and Harlan Co. Poynter - Trimble, Bourbon and Bellvue French - Mercer, Meade, Boyle There are some coaches that just don't garner a lot of attention for whatever reason but do a great job day in and out regardless of the talent. Those are the guys that live and breath for it. Those are what I call real ball coaches.
  19. I think you will find that Jerry is more than capable of calling the offense. He might call both sides if necessary. He called the plays when he was at GC the last time. Hester was the DC with Perry to the brunt of the preparation. I hope we see the option back in play?
  20. Earlier in the thread someone mentioned how tough the district could be with possibly Boyle and Lex. Cath. coming on board but Perry used to line up with the same kind of kids Garrard has now and go toe to toe with the most talented (imo) Harrodsburg teams ever.
  21. Sad but true. Those initials above ring a bell. Funny how some people really think they know what a coach does based on their observations. The real work is done when these jokers are not watching imo. When they are sitting at home reading the paper or gossiping.
  22. I've heard some names. But I have promised not to put them on the public forum.
  23. I'm getting conflicting info. One source says the job has been offered. The other says they are going the 30 day route and then form committees that will interview? Who knows. Sounds sketchy.
