Kroger is pitching in to help with drive thru testing sites, supposedly will be able to test up to 20,000 people in the next two weeks.
I have heard this as well. Kroger is partnering with the state government. Drive through testing is supposed to start Monday in Frankfort.

Friend of a friend passed this week. I'd never met him. Corrections officer in New York who undoubtedly caught it on a shift at Rikers Island. Died alone in his house trying to keep away from his family.
Curse this miserable thing. Stay safe everybody.

Agree. My nephew works at a shelter for troubled youth in Minneapolis. They could not shut down because these kids would have nowhere to go. Nephew went to doc with all the symptoms, and after he learned that a coworker had it. Doc said that he probably has it, but his fever was not high enough to test him. So he was miserably ill this weekend at home, and his fever finally broke. He’s about 27 and healthy otherwise.
Update. Nephew tested positive today. The worst is over for him, but still feeling pretty bad. Lives by himself, quarantined alone.

The majority of the ones they test are severe. There are many with symptoms that they don’t test. So obviously there will be more deaths to go along with reported cases, since the reported cases are the ones who are severe. So that number and ratio doesn’t tell us anything.

Sure. Agree their lies hurt. But we have states in the US that dragged their feet on this, and many people who are still doubters.
Why did South Korea and Germany do so much better with the same set of lies from China? Why have Vietnam and Taiwan not been hit the same way as the US?
There are many more problems here in the US that go beyond China's lies.
Agree on dragging feet. There are schools who are not online yet, or just started in the last few days. We have finished our 3rd week of NTI.

Medical students were given 2 weeks off. That ends Monday. I know we need them in the hospitals, but I’m not gonna lie, I’m feeling anxious.

I've never said that we shouldn't be vigilant. Never said we shouldn't be washing our hands, and where possible social distancing, short of closing down our country.
I am saying that I think this should be being handled on a more localized basis, and I like the way Tennessee handled it, and dislike the way Ohio and Kentucky are handling it. .
In the past when absentee rates hit around 30% in our schools they closed down until the thing passed. Knowing the potential this thing has to spread, perhaps this time around 30% would be a high number. Were we to be in school here locally, our absentee numbers would still be at about 5% - normal, with NO COVID-19 related absences, OR absences just now beginning to result as an effect of this virus..
I also realize that China and Italy are red flags, and that we should be prepared to take drastic measures if necessary. Like Tennessee, I don't think that it has come to that - yet!!!
There were 65 death notices in the Cincinnati newspaper this morning. There are from 30 to 60 death notices in the paper everyday that are non-COVID-19 related.
I wholeheartedly blame the media and social media interaction for causing the paranoia and panic associated with this present day threat. In the old days, what we didn't know didn't hurt us.
I do think that folks are being overwhelmed by what appear to be large numbers associated with this thing, which in the grand scheme of things aren't that big at all - percentage of population.
Take solace in the fact that what I think doesn't alter how things are being done one iota. It's just an opinion. Give me credit for voicing it.
I’m confused on your school absentee rate issues. Let’s say a family is exposed and they don’t know it. So siblings Jenna Junior and Frankie Freshman are in school. They actually never get sick. But they are carriers. Well Jenna is in band, and plays the trumpet. Frankie plays basketball, and his team just won the region. The girl who sits next to Frankie in math class is a type 1 diabetic, she got it from Frankie and the doctors are worried. Jenna’s English teacher has been teaching for 30 years, and was looking forward to retirement. She is on a ventilator now. Several band members have a fever, one lives with his grandmother. Frankie’s team is on the bus traveling to Rupp. And several of them are getting sick. Meanwhile, Jenna Junior and Frankie Freshman never get it. They just spread it.

The scariest part of that post above for me - 17 people in ICU on ventilators. I wonder what that would look like with no social distancing or shutdowns.
The fact that so many COVID-19 patients need ventilators to recover is a statement in and of itself. Most people on a vent require sedation, the life saving machine is invasive, and patients can acquire pneumonia just from a vent. Cognitive activity may never be the same. The list goes on. So, no thank you. Even if we do have enough ventilators to save me and my loved ones, I don’t want us to ever need one. So we are hunkered down for the long haul.

I had something similar at around the same time and went to the doctor to see if it was strep or the flu. Tested negative for both and was told I had something viral and that my sinuses were really swollen. But I had a wet cough instead of a dry one, so I don't think I had The Rona.
My wife had something awful between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I think she probably did have it. Several other friends had something similar, got tested for flu & strep, but were told it was viral.
In short, I think a lot of people have had this.
Around that time, I had several students who were out sick for long stretches. Also makes me think we already had our first wave.

Progress Report:
I received my paper at work today that says I am working for a life sustaining business and I am allowed to travel to and from work.
If I get pulled over for being out on the roads I am to show it to the police.
Same with my husband. That’s a good thing. I’m teaching from home, so it’s “Off you go, Honey.” :lol2:

My sister is one of the main caregivers for my dad, who lives alone. Her husband is a nurse anesthetist at the VA hospital. Since he is at risk, she realized that living with him also puts her at risk, and she could unknowingly pass it on to my dad. So last week she chose to go into quarantine with my dad, and away from her husband, so that she can continue to take care of him, and minimize his exposure. So grateful for my sister.
