It's interesting, when I was at Cov Cath our biggest rivals were #1 Highlands, #2 Beechwood, and then Dixie and Boone were probably about a tie for #3. I've had 5 nephews attend Cov Cath over the last handful of years, and from talking to them and their friends, the 100% consensus is that Beechwood is the #1 rival. Then the crowd was split about 60/40 between Ryle (60%) being the second-biggest rival and Highlands (40%) being the second-biggest rival. I was at a golf outing this past weekend, and without bringing it up myself I heard a Cov Cath parent say that same thing about the kids they know up at Cov Cath, nearly verbatim.

Cov Cath is $11,900 and St. Henry is $9,900.

Highlands played Cov Cath at their best for less than one quarter of football. A season-ending broken arm for their only quarterback in the first half of that game put a hell of a damper on the season for a team that was winless as 8th graders in the GCYL. Now the team is up to a half-dozen or so starters standing on the sidelines in their civies with season-ending injuries. I lean much further towards "blip in the radar." The current CYF 8th grade team, 6th grade team, and 4th grade team are all presently ranked #1 in their respective GCYL age divisions with 3-0 records. Don't worry, the sky is not falling in Park Hills.

Seems like the public/private debate is gathering steam everywhere lately... Per an article from Cincinnati's WCPO News the member schools of the Suburban League, located in Northeast Ohio, are currently circulating a petition seeking a referendum vote to create separate state tournaments for the athletic programs from public high schools and private high schools in Ohio. The OHSAA's petition deadline of December 1, 2026 requires that the petition has (1) the signatures from at least 75 principals from OHSAA member high schools, and (2) the signatures from at least 5 schools within each of the OHSAA's 6 districts in order for the petition to be placed on the OHSAA's ballot in May 2027. If it makes the ballot in May, the matter will then be voted on by the full membership of the OHSAA. If the petition is successfully submitted and subsequently passed by voters, the separate tournament systems would be put in place for the 2028-2029 school year. There OHSAA currently has 691 public high schools and 121 private high schools among their membership. Per WCPO, petitions to separate public/private high school tournaments in Ohio were attempted previously in 1978 and in 1993, but both petitions were voted down. The Suburban League is a Greater Cleveland athletic league (Ohio high school sports are divided into school leagues with member schools competing in their league for playoff births) including schools from Cuyahoga, County, Geauga County, Medina County, Portage County and Summit County. The Suburban League schools who started the petition initiative are: Aurora, Barberton, Brecksville-Broadview Heights, Copley, Highland, Hudson, Kenston, North Royalton, Nordonia, Mayfield, Medina, Revere, Solon, Stow-Munroe Falls and Twinsburg.

Gross 😂 (Just busting your chops.) Taking off my blue-tinted glasses and looking at that picture from the perspective of a Fort Mitchell kid who carpooled to Spartans football practice with Adam, that's an awesome picture of a kid winning the big rivalry game for his hometown school. Putting those glasses back on, man, that picture sucks, ha. That was my senior year...and the fifth-straight year the Colonels lost to the Tigers in football. I wasn't on any of the special teams units, so as the center I was over on the sideline watching the kick...if the picture was zoomed out a little further I was standing about riiiiiiiight there (with my fists clenched, lol.)

Same...he's an absolute DUDE! In 4 games played he's rushed 53 times for 397 yards (7.5 YPC) and 9 touchdowns. He also has 6 receptions for 105 yards (17.5 YPR) and 2 touchdowns. He's averaging 125.5 all purpose yards and 2.75 touchdowns per game....as a sophomore.

After looking at the stats from the two shared opponents, it's notable to me that when both teams faced the more capable passing opponent - Simon Kenton - Beechwood gave up at least three 25+ yard receptions. I was a little surprised by that, given the speed that Beechwood has in their defensive secondary. With as many capable receivers as Cov Cath has, and even with Brandon Smith injured (I have no idea what his anticipated return date is), I wonder whether or not that makes Coach Eviston more inclined to look for more opportunities to take deep shots downfield. To me, Dylan Courtney still looks like he's warming up to being more comfortable in the pocket with defensive pressure, although he's appeared to be visibly improving on that front every week. That said, I believe 3 of the 4 picks he's thrown this season were when he was being hurried or flushed out of the pocket. As fast and elusive as Fryman and Pabst are with the ball, if either of those were to come down with a pick for Beechwood, the scrambling that takes place after an interception is gonna make them trouble for any team to bring down if they have any kind of space to run. Coach Eviston has always liked taking shots downfield when he has a quarterback with the arm to do it...so I'm curious to see how he utilizes Courtney's arm this week, in particular.

I'm not sure I remember the last time I remember seeing a homecoming court at the Cov Cath football game. (There could have been one last year and I missed it, for all I know, but I have zero recollection of any homecoming courts in the last 10-15 years, honestly.) In truth I've never understood the point of a "homecoming game." Pick an easy win at home and make it into a celebration? Is that really fun? And why do we have a prom....I went to literally 10 proms in my high school years and not once was there ever any promenading that took place. Seems to me it's really all just a bunch of names for dances.
