  1. Brandon Hatton had a very good weekend for Kentucky Select. He was scoring almost at will. He scored 30 plus vs Team Toledo, 30 plus vs team SYF, and 38 vs Team Jordan. He shot the ball very well and no one could stop him from getting to the basket. I believe he was one of the better players that I saw in the 15u division even though he is 14u. Congrats to the entire Kentucky Select team they competed very well.

  2. I hear Hatton's pops didnt appreciate the way an opposing coach was talking to his son.

I witnessed the incident. I will say I can't blame him for his reaction. The coach was cursing at Hatton using in appropriate language and threw a basketball at him. Hatton's dad went after him across the basketball game during play. However they did not kick him out, he was allowed to stay due to the nature of the incident and the coach being in the wrong for his behavior.

  3. I do believe alot of players from Holmes play with "swag" but I will also indicate I have seen some things that I would consider dirty, imo. Let me make myself clear, I am not indicating this as a whole team concept. I am just defending Dixie because by stating their tatics are dirty when your opposing team is doing the same thing, is hypocrisy.

  4. I challenge you to show me an example of this with this bunch of Holmes kids. They as a whole are probably the finest bunch of kids that have ever worn the Holmes jerseys. They have a couple of kids that at times may play out of the norm but coach Henley certainly does not condone dirty play and by no means does he teach it.

I don't think it would be respectful to come out and pinpoint which players I am speaking of. I am not taking away Holmes athletic ability by any means, but when we are watching them play we must be watching two different teams. They are a fantastic ball club no doubts there but to indicate that there is no dirty tatics I would disagree. I am not sure what their coaches teach, I am not at their practices as neither are you at Dixies. So I think clearly it wouldn't be fair to place blame of dirty playing necessarily on a coach. However if you read my post you responded to , nowhere did I indicate that Coach Henley taught those tatics. I simply stated that Holmes has that same reputation. I am speaking from what I have heard from other parents from different ball clubs. Obviously we are both entitled to our opinions. I can tell you though that several different basketball players from different schools through out the region have complained about dirty play from a few of the Holmes players and the names are always the same. Again I will state Congrats to Holmes on excellent ball playing.

  5. Pike had a couple of nice moves to the basket and we all know he is a very nice athlete but he is getting a reputation as being somewhat of a thug. I mean how many games does the kid get called for fouls away from the ball that involve elbows or a push?

Hatton is a very nice player and made some nice buckets tonight. I really like the way he controls his body when he drives and shoots. He was just off target and I saw it in warmups. He was short on everything he put up in warmups and it carried over to the game.

Both of these kids will need to carry the load next year along with the sophomore Stansberry if they want to contend. They play in a weak district so if they can win their District crown next year and get a nice draw in the REgional tournament then then they may be able to advance.

I think Pike having a reputation as being somewhat thugish is stretching it just a little. I do agree his emotions sometimes take hold and you can see that frustration play out on the court. However I dont think that there is one team any of us could name that don't have other players react in a similiar manner. I also believe when you are on the floor playing a team who has multiple players that react with emotion as well, sometimes not always positive, you are going to get some of that back. I would like to see Pike gain some maturity , he has great potential.

Holmes played an excellent game and hope they are able to advance to state. If they play as well as they did against Dixie, in the rest of the tournament, there will be no stopping them.

  6. Unfortunately when you talk to a lot of people around the area you keep coming up with the same discussion about the dirty tactics of some of the players on this team. Sounds to me like there may be some bad influence on the end of the bench.

That is interesting you make that comment considering Holmes has that same reputation. I guess somehow those dirty tatics that certain Holmes players use aren't a point of discussion because of their winning season?

  7. I like the fact that Pike and Hatton shut down Pittman and Ricardo as someone stated they would do on the prediction thread. It looks like Hatton and Pike were too much for them to handle offensively as well. I guess the pressure got to them.

Plain and simple Hatton was off tonight. I don't think it was the pressure of this particular game, I just think he had an off night. Wes Smith played well for Dixie. I don't think Dixie could have beaten anyone in the ninth region tonight the way they played. Congrats to Holmes for making it through the first round. Ricardo is a nice player all around, very enjoyable to watch.

  8. Hatton is only an an 8th grade kid who deserves to play any sport he desires at this age. I would hate for a kid to miss out on their high school days of attending school and having fun playing multiple sports just because everyone else thinks they might be the next Michael Jordan. As they begin to enter the Junior/Senior year, I see it then as a time to narrow down if you're receiving attention from major colleges. I always say the injury issue is in God's hands for any sport, which is also why grades should be the most important part of high school for these kids. My advice is to do what you like until you get an offer such as Tate Nichols and Tyler Grubbs who were both multiple sport players until receiving gracious college offers.JMO

I totally agree. Hatton is a well rounded in sports. I have witnessed him play football, basketball and baseball. I can honestly say I am not sure which sport he aspires above than the other. I think it would be a huge mistake for him to decide at such an early age.

  9. I did hear that Coach Chevalier handled this properly by sending the JV coach home for the night. Smart move on his part. Roddy is an emotional guy but I think even he would probably agree he shouldn't be storming into the officials room after a game. Mistakes happen. Hopefully, it was a one-time mistake.

I would agree Clyde, storming into the refs room is not appropriate behavior. The officiating may have been autrocious but no excuse for poor behavior on a coach's part. This will just have to be a lesson learned for Dixie's JV coach. Kuddos to Ken for handling the situation as he did. I think every now and then a coach can lose their head and let their emotions take hold.

  10. That's just sour grapes. The better team won.

I don't have a dog in that fight, but I would have to disagree. I am not going to discredit a win by Boone's JV team. However the refs in that game were deployable. I am not sure what the outcome would have been had there been different refs, but this was one of the worst officiated games I have ever witnessed.

  11. Dixie looked very uninterested to be there. They had lots of turnovers, poor defensive efforts, no rebounding. It was just a very poor night of basketball for the Colonels. Cooper was in the game the whole night. The shift in score came with all the fouling in the last minute and half.

  12. They are a whole different team without Cruse. I noticed that last night as well. I think he would have given them another strong scoring option in the post. Holy Cross was running a triangle and 2 against Fangman and Pohlgeers last night at some points last night. Hall did a good job of taking some opportunities but Beechwoods options were limited from the rest.

Is Cruse out with an injury?
