  1. Hatton and Pike both had excellent games against Villa. I was suprised at Villa the first two quarters. They came out strong against Dixie holding a lead a few times and playing strong offensively. The second half Dixie dominated. Bryan for Villa seemed somewhat frustrated at the calls made by the officials. Once he recieved a techinical, not quite sure what was said though. It all happened so quickly couldn't find out exactly what the call was made. However even with his frustration he was a power house offensively for Villa. He is an excellent shooter. Heard Dixie tore it up later that evening against an Australia traveling team as well.

  2. From what I heard he's had back surgery in the past week or so. He'll be out for a long time and hopefully back by districts and regionals.

    Tough story for a senior.

Trammell is a junior. I heard he was going to be out for three weeks, not sure what the accuracy of that statement is. Someone told me he was sitting the bench at the game last night.

  3. Regardless of Dixie player injuries , I take Dixie by 10. I know that Smith has had limited playing time, trammel has been out and I believe is still going to be out for a few more weeks. Someone also indicated that Pike didn't play in the tournament they attended last week. Does anyone know who their healthy players are , who we expect to see make a difference for Dixie tommorow night?

  4. very well played game by the colonels. they held beechwood to just ten points in the first half. i was very impressed with the hatton kid, not exactly positive of the exact numbers but he had 7 points, 9 or 10 rebounds, 8 to 10assist 4 or 5 steals and 1 turnover on an offensive charge. the colonels played there tails off on the defensive end of the floor very impressed with there effort tonight

  5. Its up to the refs to keep the game under control. Physically I thought Dixie was dishing out a little more than Highlands until Grubbs came into the 4th quarter to neutralize some of the pushing and shoving that was going on underneath the basket. Not to mention the hand checking that was going on by the Dixie guards. But you'd better believe that if you can dish it out you'd better be prepared to take it in return.

Grubbs got called for two cheap fouls, one when he was going after a rebound another time the ref called a charge and the Dixie player clearly was leaning into him.

Don't get me wrong Highlands was fouling ALOT on the shots and the refs were doing their job and calling fouls. I'd like to know how many FT Dixie shot in the 1st quarter alone.

As far as last year's game at Highlands the Birds just handled them. I was there Boone was out-played and out-coached its as simple as that.

You won't hear anyone from Highlands making EXCUSES as to why BC beat them in the regionals because Boone outplayed Highlands on that night... end of story.

Not real worried what went on last year. Let the players settle it on the court in a month or two.

I will have to disagree about Dixie dishing out more than Highlands until the fourth. Don't get me wrong Dixie was dishing out but I think this was about as even physical game as you can get. That is mo of course. I saw alot of elbows being thrown on both sides. I think that Highlands always plays physical and Dixie will turn it on physically in a need be case. I do believe the refs should not allow games to get out of hand physically. I don't think Tuesday's night game got out of hand. I think both teams got their fair licks in and that the refs did not favor either side. I thought it was a great game and showed Highlands could finish. Dixie just doesn't have that staying power in the last few minutes of the fourth quarter.

I will agree Dixie took a ton of f/t shots in the first quarter.

  6. Stewart started the game at Center but got in foul trouble early. He got the ball on the block early and took it right at Wes Smith the 6'5 290lb post player and scored. He has nice moves but will need to put on some more weight before he graduates to be a dominant post player.

As far as Hatton goes, he may be an 8th grader by class (holdback) but he certainly has the body of a Sr already. I wonder if that is all the growing he will do or if he will get taller. He has a high basketball IQ and doesnt make a lot of mistakes like a normal 14/15 yr old would. I think the high level AAU ball he plays has really been a benefit to him and that is why he has done well so far at the varsity level.

One time though Mr. Kowolonek welcomed him to VArsity basketball by blowing right by him and laying it in. It was a thing of beauty but Hatton made a nice attempt at defending him.

Hatton definately doesn't carry a body of a 14 year old. I was speaking with his dad at the game, he won't be fifteen until the end of April. Hopefully for his sake this is not all the growing he will do. I agree that his AAU ball playing definately has helped preparing him for Varsity basketball. If this boy continues on the track he is on now, watch out in the next two years. I think Dixie struggled some but not nearly as one would have thought having Trammel out. Again I was seriously impressed with Hatton's composure at point. Trammel however is one of the better pgs in the area. Hopefully he will get well soon and back on the court for Dixie.

I do agree that Highlands losing Grote for the night was not a deal breaker for them by any means. They have a ton of talent in their starters as well as on the bench. Dixie just doesn't have the same talent. They are a tough, physical team but they just don't seem to be able to finish on top.

  7. I thought Hatton did a good job stepping into Trammels place. He had great composure for being a 14 year old kid. I thought it was a good game. The fourth quarter was somewhat out of control. There were alot of elbows thrown by both teams. It was extremely physical. I think that Dixie stayed in there so long until the last two minutes because of the physical aspect of the game. Dixies' talent is not up to Highlands, but they are physical. I think Highlands will have an excellent year ahead of them.

  8. Great game by both teams. Appears as if both teams had players out tonight. Trammel was also on the bench in Dixie gear not playing at all tonight. Highlands is going to be a tough team to beat this year. This is the best I have seen Dixie play thus far. They battled the whole entire game. The teams were tied at the end of the third quarter. It was a very physical fourth quarter. The bluebirds just had too much for Dixie to handle in the last two minutes. Congrats to the Bluebirds!

  9. They have left Pike name out of the box score. If you add the points it doesn't tally the total points for the game. Pike played and scored. He fouled out before o/t. He was in foul trouble and he only got to play about two full quarters. It was a very good game. Dixie did not have enough to finish in o/t. NCC just ran all over them. They had two of their starters fouled out , so they were not in for o/t play. NCC is a very good team. Congrats to them on their win.

  10. I was not expecting this outcome at all. I was at the game and disappointed how Dixie played. SK had a great game and Dixie did not. However I will state the officiating was one of the worst I have seen in a long time. I do not believe referees win or lose games for teams, but I do believe they can play some role in the outcome. There were several , several questionable calls. Was anyone else at the game? Maybe there were things I didn't see that they could, but I was not impressed.
