  1. I would just find it hard to turn down experience. Especially if it was coupled with success. We're probably all off because let's face it the school will have to hire according to the teaching jobs they have open.
  2. I agree you have to start somewhere but the Woodford Job needs someone that can build a program. Wouldn't you feel more comfortable with someone that had experience with this? Its nothing personal, I just don't fall in love with names on resumes.
  3. We seem very excited over a person that has never coached a varsity game. Great pedigree no doubt but it is much different as the man in charge of the program. I hope your anointment is true but you just never know.
  4. Lets add a younger coach that knows how to organize and build; players as well as a program.
  5. Actually Jim Mitchell is Scott High School, he did build the program from nothing.
  6. I disagree with the statement that the program would fade if Coach Carr left. That would mean that he had not built a program. The fact that Coach Trame and Coach Carr have created a solid foundation means that Scott should be able to land a quality coach that is willing to continue what has been set up.
  7. I know not the incident first hand but wonder when it is ever necessary to jump a kid on the sidelines. I cannot support ever singling out a kid in anger. Taking them out and not playing them is message enough. Pull them aside and handle it like the adult you want them to be. On the other side, the intensity of the moment sometimes drives us to make "mistakes" out of anger/frustration. That is an issue between coach/parent/player/administrator, hopefully as a coach you have a good enough relationship with all parrties to get through it. For SHS's sake, I hope that one incident does not define years of good work.
  8. Are we talking about Martha Layne or are we talking about Mercer Co.? Come on now let's do our homework and be different.
  9. My point exactly. If you want to build a program that endures you have to take the time to reach out to any parties that can help. I know this hasn't been done and that is why they have gone through a tough season with young inexperienced players. If its done by the present coach things will change but I ask why it hasn't been done in his time there? To answer the question of a new coach, I stated that it would be nice to have someone that had ties to the program and understands what it has lost.
  10. I would rather pay my money to coach from the stands these days than to get paid a small amount to acquire head aches, sleepless nights, and high blood pressure. It is just bad to see a tradition rich program(including Coach Roachs' Dunbar) drop so far. As far as the fix, there are many that would get the job done based on experience, resume, but will they reach out to all of the former players that have been left out. Sure there is someone that I would like to see back but we'll let that dog stay down for now.
  11. One thing about high school jobs these days, once it starts going down hill, its like trying to stop a train. Some coaches can overcome bad seasons some can't. My comment on Dunbars job reflects a need to get back to what foundation the program was built on by Watson. There is no connection to the past. You used to see former players coming to practice and games, helping out training over the summer, you do not see that anymore. The keys to winning in Lexington are how well you mesh the feeders together and how much interest do feeder kids have in the program(so they don't leave). They need a return to that tradition. Possibly a former player or ASSISTANT, that could do it.
  12. I believe the answer to Dunbar lies in Frankfort.
  13. So no other schools in the city graduate players? Dunbar through Watson and Oakley graduated players, some classes big, but they didn't follow that up with a 3 win season. That is an easy excuse for covering up the fact that you have not built a solid program. A senior class of 6 should not have prevented the others from getting experience.
  14. I would say that there is unrest at Dunbar due to the season. It was mentioned that they were playing with young inexperienced players. Why do you have that situation?
  15. I think the real problem lies with coaches and parents who allow this to continue. No party is free of fault. Too many coaches have bought into the quantity over quality idea for getting better. Parents on the otherhand buy into this and give into the these mandatory demands. I'm not sure who started the one sport means I'm going to college but there are a lot of former athletes, including myself, that are glad coaches and parents didn't know about this in our day. Just check once in a while how many multi sport athletes in HS play for major D1 programs. I guess they didn't get the memo either.
  16. Think of all good freethrow shooters that you have known. Did their coaches make them that way in practice or did they make themselves that way by shooting hundreds and hundreds before and after practice as well as wearing it out in the summer? The best that coaches can do is allow them to shoot after being tired or trying to recreate a game situation. Great freethrow shooting is a product of repetition, once my father/coach taught me to shoot properly, it was up to me to learn the stroke.
  17. Should we now reflect on those that said Coldiron was not a good choice for Lafayette. I seem to recall statements about his past jobs. Its funny how coaches can go from being bad to good in such a short period of time. Congrats Lafayette and goodluck.
  18. I would look at playing a varsity player as an extremely poor decision on the varsity coaches part. What if the player gets hurt? Lets see you lose in the first game of the districts(varsity) but your 8th grade was favored in the state tourney. Wonder if that will save a job?
  19. Good hire then, they have gotten drastically better since last year.
  20. Moss Middle and Johnson Central have to be two of the teams to beat. Walton will be good, as will Southern, Lincoln, Knox, Glasgow, LTMS, Crosby, and Clinton. Who else has had a great year. Looks like pretty much everyone had a great year. It will probably depend on who everyone played to have that great year.
  21. Franklin County teams should represent well. Elkhorn and Bondurant have size and strength. Frankfort is extremely quick and can cause a lot of problems if you're not used to it. It will be nice to see them play only one game a night and not the regular 2 or 3 for some of them. I have been amazed that they can play so many minutes and are always playing hard.
  22. Heard it was wearing black uniforms at KOBG tournament, not supporting girls team enough, poor decisions in their 4 season losses, and not running of an "at risk" player. I believe that defines the ridiculous.
  23. I am glad that you all got that worked out. From a staff member at the time, I was told that the AD was not involved in the decision or even invited to the meeting. Even more ridiculous than that were the reasons for the release.
  24. I think everyone knows and understands that it was an embarassing situation. You just had to read BGP in those days to sense what was going on. To have a man fired for the reasons he was fired is a travesty. The sad thing was as bad as it was for a young promising coach it was more for the next several classes who never recovered. I watched them play under Norman at AAU and they were the only squad to compete with a strong Scott County. The fact that they didn't reach their potential shows how they took it.
