  1. Does it matter if it was about one of our fallen soldiers?

Actually, your right it doesn't. The couple of players that pulled down the spirit sign along the fenceline as they ran off the field, SHOULD NOT HAVE TORN DOWN ANY SIGN, regardless of what it said. That it was in memory of a fallen teammate does make it more inflamatory. As I said above, the situation was dealt with after the game, rightly so, by the COACH. Enough Said.

The Big guy who ran for the touchdown to put the score up by 52 to 26 was number 6, Senior Michael Hampton. A first year football player and GC Basketball player.

  2. Some of you must have been watching a different game than I was last night because the game was not decided at the half like mentioned above. The score was 20-20 at the beginning of the second half. GC was up by only 2 scores with 10 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Not alot against a QB like Farley. Under 8 minutes GC went up by three. Yes, Corey Lyle was left in the game at that time when it was discovered he was only 6 yards away from a school record. He broke free for a long touchdown and was then pulled from the game.

Some have asked why we didn't put in our 2, 3, or 4th string players...WHAT PLAYERS???? Greenup has fewer players on the roster than Raceland. When you subtract out the 24 or so that consistently play varsity and the ones who are injured or ineligible that only left 8 players. (Freshman) They were played, including our Freshman QB. Greenup does not have enough players for a full JV or Freshman team. We have to use 8th graders.

Raceland has an excellent Football program and I was impressed with their offensive line last night. They will have a great season.

  3. A few Greenup County players did pull down a sign/banner last night in their excitement after the game. They were immediately called back by the coaches. They did not realize it was a sign in memory of a fallen Racleand teamate, to imply otherwise is untrue. The situation was dealt with after the game by Coach Copley. Apologies go out to the Baldridge family.

  4. I have not heard anything about Greenup dropping Raceland from their schedule...We do not even have an athletic director at this time and all game scheduling/changes to contracts are pending. I would hate to see this happen and just can not believe this is true. This game is important financially to both teams as it always draws huge crowds. Despite the friendly rivalry that happens I have always had respect for Racelands program and believe the same to be true from our coaching staff. With the realignment of districts next season, Greenup will be changing several contracts. Currently Ashland has a contract with us to play in week 0. Since they will be in our district next year this will have to be changed to late in the season. Several of our 2 year contracts are expiring and will have to be redone and changed to different weeks.

As for the "running up the score" I do not see this happening...(I think the game will be alot closer than most people think.) If GC were to get out ahead, I believe Coach Copley has to much class to do something like that. If you have information that differs from what I have stated here please PM me and let me know your source.

  5. Greenup is a heavy favorite Friday night in Lloyd. This year reminds me of when these two played in the 80's when the difference in classes (4A vs 1A) was a huge advantage for GC. I believe that Raceland will have to play a perfect game in order to win this one. Greenup is bigger, faster, stronger and more experienced in this one. Anyone calling GC the underdog is the ultimate sandbagger!!!!!!!!:notworthy:

I have learned from the best!!!!

  6. Nice post again PureFan, this will be a huge game for both programs with a big crowd to watch an awesome ball game this Friday night, it will be high intensity football atmosphere at it's best. GCHS, you play hard to your full potential every night and leave nothing on that field, you win.

You can say that again! We love hosting the Rams at Greenup...Just one thing, Could you guys bring your concession stand with you???

  7. With the big experienced line and hard nosed running backs I don't see how we have a chance to win this game. Greenup Co will be poised to try and run us out of the stadium and back to Raceland. Is there any way the RAMS can win this game? Our team is young. Greenups team dominated by seniors. Our line on both sides of the ball will be out manned by about 50# per man. Greenups backs run harder and are stronger. Both have good QB's. Maybe about half of the Greenup football team will get in trouble and won't be able to dress for the game!! That should make it even!:D

    SANDBAGGER!!!!

Ok I will give it a go...

Greenup is pretty beat up right now and the Oline is plagued with injuries. The Rams are looking for revenge and we can count on them being really up for this game. The Musketeers may be over confident and are still having trouble with the pass protection. They are also coming off a Saturday game and have one less day to prepare for the Rams. This will be a very close game.

  8. I agree that there is room for improvement. We need to keep improving each week and stay focused. ND was prepared and found our weaknesses during the first half... Our boys won out in the second half (they have the stamina due to the excellent conditioning they have received in the offseason.) Going to the shotgun surprised me and I wonder why we didn't stick with what works? Versatility is fine but perhaps mixing it up should be done after the points are on the scoreboard. Lyle had an excellent night with 199 yards... He will break some records this year.

  9. Although we put one in the win column, I was disappointed in how the Musketeers played tonight. They seemed to be sleep walking through the first half. I think the boys thought they had this one in the bag all week and did not come prepared to give 110%. Greenup struggled on offense the first two quarters and went into the lockerroom with the score 7-0 (GC). We were in the red zone several times and did not convert. There was a lot more energy the second half and GC scored on every possession. We have a lot of work to do this week. There were to many mistakes and our pass protection is still not where it needs to be.

Now is the time to RECOMMIT and keep improving. Football Games are 4 quarters long and you can't just play one half and think you will win against Raceland, Rowan, or any of the other teams on your schedule. As I said in the prediction thread, you must give every team the same level of respect you give the big rivals if you want to come out on top. Congrats on the win.
