  1. Congratulations to Corey Lyle. Not only did he break his own record for rushing in a single game, he also broke the seson rushing record at Greenup. Dunaway's record was set 33 years ago and Lyle (#33) broke it during this game. This was Senior Night for the Musketeers and I want to congratulate all the seniors and thank them for their committment to the team. They have stuck it out through thick and thin. Most have played together since the early JFL years. I will miss seeing you guys on the home field.

  2. With negotiations going on this week...how can anyone post that Greenup has "officially" dropped Raceland from the schedule? I am not sure what the "powerplay" reference is to?

I do know that our Coach was asked to look at how games were scheduled at Greenup in order to balance big game gate years against "off years." In the past GC has had schedules that were basically "all or nothing." By that I mean that one year we would have Ashland, Russell, Raceland at home and the next year they would all be away. Administration asked that this be broken up so that our gate would be more consistent. For example, if we played Russell away next year they wanted to play Raceland at home or vice versa. With new district matchups much of the schedule had to be redone and those games finalized before nondistrict games were negotiated.

I am not sure what the sticking point in the negotiations are at this point. But I am, as several Raceland fans have also mentioned, tired of the drama. I would like to see this game happen, but after all the name calling toward our coach, school and fans I am fine with walking away from it all.

  3. I would hate to see this great rivalry game not happen. It was always a great atmosphere, and until recently most fans have been respectful and kept the smack talk within reason. The fact is these are neighboring schools and many families have relatives invested in both programs. I have always wished Raceland well on their season and root for them in every game but one.

That being said, I can understand why Greenup might want a break. Except for the great gate involved, what does the TEAM have to gain from this game? When they win, they only hear things like..."What does a big 4A school have to brag about beating a little 1 A school?" etc...or comments that they ran up the score (and it was never even a running clock!) If they lose it only gets worse.... Some of the fans from both sides (not referring to any BGP members) take things to far and forget that it is a football game. Yes, historically a great one, and even though Raceland is 1A they have always been competitive. I always looked forward to this game.

I know that Greenup is looking to improve their schedule and play some new teams that will help them get ready for district games. The team next year will be stronger than some think. They have been working hard and getting strong in the weight room. Don't count them out before they have a chance to show folks what they are made of!

  4. Greenup did not play well...period! No Whining, No blaming the Coach or the refs. It is what it is. Do I understand the frustration of some of our Fans? Yes! I don't think anyone thought we would be 3 and 4 at this point in the season. BUT now is the time to pull together, not apart. Now is the time to support the Coach and the team, not criticize and tear them down.

  5. You just had to bring that up. :irked: (good example )

After a tough loss like this one is imo when it will show what the GCHS team is made of. What I mean is they can put their heads down over this game and just "play it out" the rest of the season or they will get past it, pick themselves up and work even harder to make this season like the one they wanted since pre season. I believe they will choose the latter and come back strong. :thumb:

    Thanks Oldrambler!

  6. This was a tough, tough loss for Greenup County. Greenup had 518 rushing yards and held Rowan to 185. We had 26 first downs compared to their 18. It came down to the final 4 seconds and Rowan walked away the winner with a tremendous 45 yard field goal. The MVP award was given to Greenup County's Offensive Line.

The boys played their hearts out and I can definately say they left it all on the field. We needed to play perfect football and we didn't.

Musketeers, YOU HAVE TO SHAKE THIS ONE OFF! I know it is heartbreaking, especially for our Seniors. Don't let this one game define you or the season. Band together even stronger and come out fighting next week!
