  1. His dad is on the 5 man committee. He doesn't even have a teaching degree.Seems like the principal [ Yates] who is on the committee lied to Jaggers about wanting the head coach to teach in the high school.
  2. I don't know all of that info.I know that Brown is in his 20's and went 4-7 last year at Rowan. Cleavenger is in his early 30's and is 9-11 in his 2 years as head coach at Henderson. The coach at Madisonville is in his 30's and is 12-9 in his 2 years as a Head coach and Mason is in his mid 30's and was 6-5,6-5,7-5 his 1st 3 years as a head coach biut went 0-10 his last year at Nelson and was let go by Nelson County.I don't know anything about the other applicant.Mason does have 1 State Title as the defensive coordinator for the Titans.
  3. I asked someone from Harrodsburg the other day when they thought Mercer was going to build a new stadium over by the new school and he said it wouldn't happen in his lifetime . They ran out of money building the new school. The girls softball field would be the only thing over there for several years.I wonder if any of the coaches interviewed asked why the band director was given 10 more extended days pay than the head b-ball coaches or the football coach.
  4. Cleavenger has shown alot of improvement at Henderson. His 1st year they were 2-9 and last year they were 7-4. Henderson is one of the biggest schools in the state and they have outstanding facilities and great community support. Some people think its the best job in wky.
  5. Every coach I know cares about his players. The guys who are applying care about their players. They might not be in as good a situation as Buchannan is at Mason. He's been a head coach along time without any State Titles and if he comes to Mercer it would be alot harder to win one.Mason County is in alot easier district and class than Mercer.I don't care how nice the next coach is if he doesn't win the community won'tlike him for long.
  6. Not big on spreading rumors, b/c I have no idea whether or not Coach Brown has applied or not, none of my business. But, he also had a few year stint at Cumberland College (now University of the Cumberlands) as a Grad Assistant and coached the LB's there his last couple years. A great player who has also turned into a great young coach.
  7. 1 year as an asst. at Boyle and 1 year as head coach at Rowan. I believe he has a kid or 2 that live in Danville.
  8. Now, there is something I can say we definately agree on! :thumb:
  9. That is nowhere near what I'm saying, not being a smart alec here, but you just have to be one (teacher) to know what I'm talking about. It's the teaching load throughout the day. Again, teaching ONE subject throughout the day, nothing hard about that at all, actually, it's fun. However, having to teach multiple subject classes in the day is VERY tough, to be honest, it's not even really fair to the kids. Think about it, using the current 'block' schedule that most schools have or some form of it (4-5 class periods a day, lasting and hour to hour and a half). Which would be best for the teacher and most importantly the students? Teaching 3-4 periods of Algebra 1 w/ ONE planning period OR teaching 3-4 periods of Algebra 1, Geometry and Business Math with ONE planning period? Both are doable, you're correct, but one situation is great and the other situation, for the lack of other words, stinks. As I said, it takes being a teacher to know what I'm talking about. I realize that there are some on here who will try to put on their Captain America persona, and act they can do it all and have no worries, when they really do, but just won't be honest about how they really feel.
  10. The supt. that just retired built that. The principal had nothing to do with it.While your asking coaches ask Souder the girls coach or Shope the baseball coach or Cundiff the boys b-ball coach.the band did win state but do you know who they beat and what was the score? how much gate receipt money did they bring into the school district?
  11. Purple- quit talking to the people out at Corning and ask the coaches at the school what they think of the principal.Ask the b-ball coaches or the baseball coaches.Do you really think that French or Harp would teach a full load?French has been retired at least 3 years and Harp hasn't taught a class at Danville in the last 10 years.
  12. The band statements, I haven't heard different, from anybody. Apparently, they rule things at Mercer. Secondly "having to teach" is a broad area. The good set up? Teaching ONE class throughout the day. The bad set up? Teaching multiple classes (different subjects/content) throughout the day. Have a hard time believing it, fact of the matter is, the teaching schedule for the next coach will come into play. Might it be a full load of classes, maybe so? Chances are though, the new coach will be teaching the same class load as their previous job. They aren't going to find one who is either A) Done with teaching by 1:00 or B) Teaching a full load, of the SAME class at their previous school (yes, theres a lot out there that have this schedule). Some of you out there can choose to live in 'Never-Never Land' all you want.
  13. Also, I just found out some info that I am completely shocked to hear!! The Band Director at Mercer, next year, will be paid $3,000 more and have 10 more extended days than the next head football coach, and current boys basketball coach. Now, I'm not saying the Band Director get paid less, but I have never in my entire life heard of this. Weird thing is, can anybody name me a high school out there that has a marching band, that doesn't have a football team? Sounds to me like the powers to be, whomever they are calling the shots in these matters at Mercer, has everything completely mixed up.
  14. Sure you can do both effectively. However, I'm willing to bet that both of those you just mentioned taught the same class. Teaching 1, heck, even 2 different content specific classes a few times a day is a cakewalk. I'm willing to bet that both of those did and/or do only teach one specific class, a few periods of the day. Jaggers, according to well informed sources, was being asked to teach 3 different subject classes, in a 5 period day, and only 1 planning period. Not very doable, that is, if you're wanting that teacher to make the most out of his/her class(es). Now, do that or retire with full benefits? I know what I'll do one day! :dancingpa
  15.:sssh: That doesn't happen, though, right?
  16. I still say Bill Mason has earned the chance. Before Mercer, he was the HC at 6A(old 4A) Nelson Co. for a few years and did a more than respectable job there. I think he was .500 or better all of his years, except for his last in '05. IF Nelson had been matched up with any other 4A district, come playoff time, his record would have been much better. It's tough when you come in 1-4th place in your district, then have to turn around and play St.X, Male, PRP, Manual, etc. in the 1st round of the district every year.
  17. The East, IMHO, has the three "best" teams in Bell, Boyle and LexCath. The West, however, I think is the best from top to bottom. As you said in an earlier post, it's a complete crapshoot for ALL of the teams in the west, minus maybe a handful, or maybe less.
  18. Atwell committed and went to Toledo for his 1st year. Mumme didn't recruit him, then when Morris took over, Atwell came in. I know what you're saying, though.
  19. This really good RB that they have, I've heard a lot about. Does he have big time potential? Glad to see another mountain/eky school making noise in football!!!
  20. Fort Knox was AA in '96 when Homer won the honors. Pointing out the obvious, but they got beat by Breathitt Co in the finals. Didn't Evarts HS have a guy back in the late 80's that won it? They were Class A. I think there has been 3 Class A guys to win it. Atwell, Dennis Johnson and the Evarts player. Weaver is legit and then some. Best of luck to you!
