  1. Sounds a bit like Christian County in 2010 with Hickey and Tandy. The Birds' strategy to contain Hickey and keep him from improvising in the open field was the key. Without the ability to scramble and create plays, he had to revert to passing, and the rest is history.

I can guarantee you that Page can throw the ball a heck of a lot better than Hickey. He's thrown for almost 3,000 yards and 35+ TD's. What were Hickey's passing numbers going into that game? Im not saying that Page is anywhere near Hickey in the openfield running the ball either though. I doubt that the gameplan will be to sit back and force Page to make reads and throw the ball. If so, then Jerry Lucas is salivating and thinking he has a great chance at out-scoring Highlands and winning this game.

In my opinion, Collins will score some points. The question is whether or not Collins can stop Highlands. I dont think they will stop Highlands offense very often or even at all. However, I would be willing to bet that this will not be a replay of the 50-0 Christian Co game.

  2. Congrats to both Collins and Highlands for advancing to the state title game. Who is Collins' coach, and where was he at before coming to Collins?

Jerry Lucas is the head coach. He was the offensive coordinator for Shelby Co the 8-10 years before he took over at Collins when Shelby County split into 2 schools. Prior to that, he was an assistant at Scott Co under McKee and then the head coach at Western Hills for a few years. His defensive coordinator is Tom Becherer(head coach of Shelby Co for many years including 4A state championship in 1987 and 4A runner up in 1993).

If there is 1 thing that Jerry Lucas will be able to do then it will be find ways to put points on the board. Im not saying that Collins will win this game(I think Highlands wins), but I honestly feel that predicted scores like 77-0 and predictions of a running clock in the 2nd quarter are ridiculous.

Ill say that this game is competitive for a while before Collins starts to wear down.

    Highlands 49 Collins 21

  3. Trinity, St.x , Eastern, Butler, Manual > Bowling Green, Owensboro, Henry Clay, Bryan Station, Madison Central- Catholic was a common opponent that scored 42 on LHS and 28 on LMHS. You really know you're football...

Do you have problems reading? I said they were pretty even other than Male getting blown out by Trinity and all you want to do is keep mentioning the fact that Male played Trinity.

Bowling Green > St. X(this has been proven the last 2 years)

    Lex Cath = Lex Cath

Eastern > Bryan Station(not by a whole lot but def better. 2 common opponents and they were both 2-0 with Eastern winning each game by a little more than BS)

Butler = Madison Central(I dont see Butler as being a lot better than Mad Central if at all. Butler beat teams it was supposed to and lost to good teams. Mad Central actually played Lex Cath a lot tougher than both Lafayette and Male. Their other 3 losses came from Lafayette and 2 undefeated teams.)

Manual = Owensboro(neither are very good and they were both bad losses by Male and Lafayette)

You are correct though...I really know my football!!!

  4. Lafayette isn't 7-3 with Male's schedule... and how many teams in the state would hold Eastern, LexCath, St. x, Trinity and Manual to an average of less than 30 points? You seem like some kind of football expert.

Did somebody say that Lafayette would be 7-3 with Male's schedule? I mustve missed that.

Thats why they call it an average smart one. They held Butler to 8 and that made the average 30. Throw out the Butler game and they gave up 35 a game while only scoring 10.5 per game.

  5. By looking at the contest thread I guess there is actually no reason to even play this game? It seems to be a general consensus that Male will be the highest scoring #4 seeded team and that Lafayette is the guaranteed #1 seed to lose.

I guess I beg to differ. Everytime Male has played "quality" competition(Butler, Lex Cath, Eastern, St. X, Trinity and Manual) the Bulldogs have failed to score more than 21. Actually only scoring more than 14 on 1 occasion(vs. Eastern). Sure they put up a lot of points vs the likes of Floyd Central, Western, Boone Co and CAL.

In those same 6 games vs "quality" opponents, Male gave up an average of 30 points per game. Actually only holding their opponent under 24 points on 1 occasion(vs. Butler). Once again, they dominated the other 4 lower caliber opponents.

Why does it seem to be a given to most that Male will come to Lexington and beat Lafayette handily at home? Any thoughts or predictions?

  6. Don't think its of any relevance really. X and T will play in the 3rd round. What is to come of that game? Who knows?

"What is to come of that game? Who knows?"

What do you mean who knows? Everybody on here should know!!! If that game is to happen in the 3rd round then we all know how it will turn out. It will be a BLOWOUT by Trinity like it has been for the last few years now. Nothing has changed.

  7. You can't take anything from the score. The game was called after little more then 1 quarter of play. If you saw the game then you know it was competitive up to that point. Henderson fumbled their first possession after moving the ball well. They gave up one long drive and 2 big plays. Again, 2011 meant nothing, to continue to bring it up costs you and him credibility. BG didn't beat St. X in 2011 and again CC stomped Henderson in 2011. By your logic BG shouldn't have beaten St. X and CC should have stomped Henderson again. Other then St.X and T Henderson could play with and beat any of the other teams in the top 10. The Louisville schools are getting love for no other reason then they are from Louisville.

Yes, BG did beat ST. X in 2011. They beat them 28-20 at St. X. BG was 15-0 in 2011.

However, I def agree with your last statement. I think there are the 2 green teams and then a BIG bunch of teams that could all beat each other on a nightly basis.

  8. Actually it was 14-7 at the end of the 1st and that was after BG scored at the end of the 1st on their 3rd untimed down. they then returned a punt for a TD in the 2nd to make it 21-7. The game could have easily been in Henderson's favor. Who knows how the game would have ended up but when it was called Henderson was driving and was in BG territory. BG's D was not doing much to stop Henderson's O.

Obviously they were doing something to stop the Henderson O if they forced a punt and ran it back for a TD.

As Blockbuster eluded to, it was the same situation in 2011 before the blowout began. Lafayette was tied with BG before BG scored on an untimed down from the 1 right before halftime. BG went on to win that game 42-20. Does this mean Lafayette played competitive with BG? Sure, it was competitive for a half, but not for a whole game. I just dont think you can consider the Henderson/BG game to be real competitive if its 21-7 when its called after 18 minutes of play.

  9. Thank you for that information. I thought that was a final score. I was just going off of scores and strength of schedule as I compared the teams and that looks like a 21-7 loss on paper. I still think the Christian Co. win is a good win. So maybe I flip flop Henderson Co. and Male.

I agree that it is a good win anytime you beat Christian County. It is also strange to me that they only beat Meade Co 16-8.
