  1. I love it! At least with this move citizens actually get to choose if they want to pay this tax or not. Let's don't get started about coal severence taxes. The coal and timber has been robbed of Eastern Kentucky and what was given back to the people living there???? Welfare programs!! Those people have no airports, decent roads, phase I electric development, proper sewage and waste management, or anything else that attracts growth. So, they have become hopeless, helpless, victims of poverty. Eastern Kentucky is mostly a rural ghetto. This tax will hit many of them, too. But at least with this folks can choose NOT to pay, simply by not doing things that are bad for them.
  2. I know Paul wrote that, but if you read it carefully, he clearly distinguishes which part of his writing is his opinion and which part is a direct command from God. As far as the qualifications for a deacon, read I Timothy Ch. 3. Then, you can answer that question for yourself. It does seem odd that he would write these qualifications, being unmarried, himself. Must have truly been the will of God, not just what Paul thought?????????????
  3. Jesus said many will come forbidding marriage and forbidding certain meets. I say, don't follow after them. How can an unmarried man counsel his flock about marriage? The book of Timothy says a bishop or deacon must be "the husband of one wife." Another scripture implies that a pastor must have his house in order and his children under subjection for "how can he rule the house of God, if he can't rule his own family."
  4. But we are not given any indication as to the age of these people...
  5. CC, the Bible says baptism is "for the answering of a good conscience towards God." For me it is symbolic that we have had a spiritual part with Christ's death, burial, and ressurection.
  6. Yes, but I couldn't make the conection. The way I understand scripture, a person is innocent if truly ignorant, "To him who knoweth to do good, and do it not; to him it is sin". Therefore, until a person reaches a maturity level which allows for understanding of sin and why Jesus had to die, that person may be doing things that are wrong, but "their sins are not imputed unto them". Once a person is wooed by the spirit, "With loving kindness have I drawn thee"; they will then reject the Spirit of the Lord or fall into a saddened state of guilt on account of their sin, repentance. This is done through the preaching and hearing of God's word; "It pleases God through the foolishness of preaching to save them which believe". Yet, "It's not the hearer of the word that is justified but the doer"; therefore the individual must invite Jesus into their life, "Behold I stand at the door and knock". Once that happens that person is delivered from sin, salvation. "When you believe you are then sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise". Then, and only then, is that person a worthy candiate for baptism.
  7. I don't mean to be offensive, but I just can't get confirmation out of anything in that post.
  8. Let's feed Ashley Judd to the coyotes in Eastern Kentucky. That way they'll have someting to eat, besides our cattle, and we won't have to listen to her stupid ideas. Or watch her at UK games every 5-10 minutes.
  9. Baptism doesn't cleanse us from Sin. The Blood of Jesus does. The Bible says baptism is not for the putting away of the filthiness of the flesh, but for the answering of a good consciense to God. Jesus didn't say that heaven was like children, because children needed to be baptized. He said it, because they were already perfect. Larry, the only ones that will burn are those who reject Salvation. It will be their choice not God's will. "It is not my will that any should perish, but that all will come unto repentance and live." Not baptism-repentance. I see infant baptism as creating a false sense of spiritual security in a person who had no ability to choose to participate in the act. Baptism is reserved for those who have experienced salvation. Where is confirmation discussed, taught, recommended, etc in the Bible?
  10. Still waiting for scriptural call to baptize small children. I'm not talking about some religious organization's historical practice. I need to see it in the Bible. We are not to follow after the traditions of men; rather, what thus soever saeth the word of God. John the Baptist rejected the Pharisees and Saducees and called them a generation of vipers and told them to go and bring forth fruits meet for repentance. Meaning- he would not baptize them until they repented. Of what does a newborn need to repent, when Jesus said the kingdom of heaven is likened unto them?
  11. Several thoughts: First- Give me just one scriptural reference to the apostles or anyone else baptizing infants. It just isn't in the Bible. Second- The responsibility for our Salvation falls on us, as free moral agents. Jesus bowed his head on the cross and said, "It is finished." Now, it is left up to us to believe, repent, confess, and be baptized. A baby can not do these things, because they are innocent, "Of such is the kingdom of Heaven". Think of your own children: Do you get any glory out of making them wash the dishes or take out the trash; possibly, even after arguing with you about it? No. But what about if you've had a horrible day at work and you are beat, and you come home and your kids have cleaned the house, made their beds, and have cooked supper for you. How does that make you feel? GREAT!!! It is the same way with salvation. God gives us the opportunity to obtain it, but doesn't force it on us, because there is no glory in making people do things.
  12. My all-time favorite is Jesse Jackson, a supposed minister and spiritual counselor, offering marriage counseling to Bill Clinton at exactly the same time that he, himself was having an illicit affair and fathering a child with his adulteress.
  13. It is still a free enterprise capitalist country isn't it? Rush is free to make whatever he can. Of course Obama wants people to stop listening to Rush, at least until the liberals ban conservative talk radio. You know one of Hitler's first moves upon seizing power was to make sure every German home had a radio.
  14. You make good points, Bear. However, this is only a mirror of our greater society as a whole. You can't like professional or even college sports and disregard the younger levels of play. At some point a fire had to be lit in an athlete to drive them to out-work the millions of other kids that started out playing that sport. Sports have become a very important aspect of life in America; along with rewards. It doesn't always make sense. Look at the CATS accountability system. We rewarded schools in prosperous districts with more money and funding and punished those in impoverished districts for factors beyond their control. It's America...the rich get richer! I mean it is totally messed up when we pay athletes millions; while a teacher in a single parent household can qualify for food stamps. But that's the way it is. Whether one likes these games or not. It is an honor and a great experience for those who get to participate. No, it doesn't mean they'll be the next Lebron James or Adrian Peterson or Derek Jeter. It does mean at that point in life they are good at what they are doing, that's all.
  15. What feeder system works best: a community based little league or school teams?
  16. After reading some of the thoughts expressed on another thread...I am curious what you guys think it takes to build a football dynasty from the ground up? I'm talking about schools like Boyle who go from mediocre to powerhouses, almost overnight. What is more important: the right coach, a committed administration, an active but not obtrusive booster organization, etc.? I know in an ideal world all of these exist. But what does it take to build it where it doesn't exist? What are some specific examples of things successful programs have done to elevate their programs?
  17. All members of Kentucky's All-State team from the KYMSFA were nominated. It was then up to the coaches and/or parents to fill out the required forms, etc. to allow players to be considered. Also, each player nominated had to submit a DVD of highlight clips and were subject to final approval by a committee headed by John Gallagher in New Jersey.
