  1. Ya know....there is one way to find out who would win a game between these two teams......play each other during the regular season. Rockcastle got beat by both Bell and Boyle...straight up...but they weren't afraid to play either. They also played Whitley, Southwest Pulaski, Pulaski and Lincoln who are 5A schools and at least two of them went deep into the playoffs in 5A. They did have a losing record for the first time in over two decades...but they did play all these teams. If the fans at Boyle want a piece of Highlands....press ol' French....get you a game and see who wins. After Highlands beat the St. X out of Cincy this year after the big boys from the 'Ville couldn't....I'd have to throw my hat toward Highlands. McShara was awesome as a running back...but I'd still think that Highlands would be more of a bite than Boyle could chew this year.

  2. I do not think that everyone feels the same as you do about how things are funded with the sports programs in the county. I think that every sports team would always like to have more. It is what you do on the field or court that counts. Many teams have done more with less. Quit whining about the football team always being shorted by the administration. Who do you think would be the right person should be for the job OLD wise one?:madman:

I don't know how you are funded down there in MC as far as the split between football, basketball...etc.:idunno: Football is the most expensive sport to fund, but in my opinion affects the largest number of a student body in numbers.(the payoff) I also don't know which sport brings in the most money in revenue there in MC where an argument that the most lucrative sport should be funded the best. I do know this, as I posted in a Rockcastle posting on another discussion board very recently, when a community gets behind good coaching and good kids....good things generally seem to happen. The coaches that you currently have in place seem like very optimistic and knowledgeable guys. Your program seems to be headed in generally the right direction. Though the games you won this year might not have been over what some would (and have on here) be called "quality" teams, they DID win them. Would they have won over non-quality teams two years or more ago?....who knows? I also know this...if you guys terminate the current coaches or "encourage" them to leave to get a new group of coaches in just for a power struggle play in the county, it will do nothing but hurt your team. I'd give the coaching staff in place now a chance by promoting within before I cleaned the blackboard to start over. And as I stated earlier, get your community behind your boys for funding for facilities as well as general support...or you'll be sporting losing records to non-quality teams with a fractured football community. Good luck in your decision :thumb: and I wish you all the best! (Except against us. :p)

  3. I think Coach Gay would like to see one of his Assistants get the job. James Payne or Mark Jones either would make a good Head Coach. This being McCreary County anything is possible. :banana:Good Luck to the Raiders, this Coaching Staff has been wonderful. The Team has been fun to Watch the past 4 years. Hope whomever they hire will keep things moving FWD.

Yeah...ol' Payne seems like a pretty good guy and talks like he knows what he's doing....I'd say that it would create some continuance with the program. I hope that he gets the job! I don't know the Jones fellow as well. Good luck to you guys in your decision.:ylsuper:

  4. Bell had the better team last night, congratulations and good luck the rest of the way. I know that many of the Rockcastle fans will be pulling for your boys the rest of the way as a district foe and a mountain team. I hope you get to the carpet.

footballhd : The Rock have fallen on hard times. Glory days are over.

I feel that in the next two years, our boys will hopefully give Bell more of a challenge than they have in the last two years as there is a group of three classes coming up that compliment each other pretty well. I guess we will have to just sit back and see how the future pans out. I don't think that it's time to turn out the lights and call the funeral parlor for Rockcastle football. Quality coaching and good kids as well as community support helps to make average to good teams into great teams. I think your Coach Hilton would agree with that.

Log Mountain Boy : They had a dominant team for a while. They made it to the state championship twice, one time beating Highlands. I'd say they were better than pretty good for a while there.

Thank LMB for the show of class and respect, the feeling is mutual.:thumb:

  5. Hey papgrit I threw a vote your way this time, tit for tat! I have a good friend or two who coaches at Whitley Co and they are a very good football team. You guys just need to play physical from the start and try to put yourself in a position to win at the end. Good Luck!

Thanks for the support bud....we need it! Hopefully these boys will catch a little defensive fire against their strong running game. Good luck to you all against Lynn Camp and look for old Daddy Cat while your there.:thumb:

  6. I did like your post. There have already been some interesting developments in the 12th region. Especially down around the 48th district, with lost that PC has had. They lost there senior PG for the season, and appear to be without Jenkins for a substantial amount of time.

That 8th grade class at SW is not all together any longer, I think have lost two members of that team. (are they 47th?). That district goes through McCreary, I don't dont beleive Dunagun and company can sneak in and steal it.

Somerset experienced the loss of two guards, a junior to a knee injury during soccer and the freshman (coach's nephew) in a transfer to PC.

Rumors out there that Derek Thacker was not going to play his senior year at Rock.

With tip off right around the corner, still looks like a McCerary V. WJ showdown.

Any other 12th region fans out there but Purple Pride and I.

Last word I heard was Derek will be playing this year. That was about a week ago. You never know though....the kid is trying to get scholarship offers in football and if a college says they want him to concentrate on football and weights for a free ride....:idunno: He is good kid with some options.

  7. That's cool:thumb: You know I have great respect for Bell and appreciate their fans and have even grown to love several of them!

Oh yeah, another thing since this was asked I have a question. If there are so many people out there that dis-like Bell or atleast their fans why don't more of them vote for their opponents to win? Maybe there is something to the Bell Co's jealousy theory!

I threw ya a vote HOP...good luck Friday.

BTW...I don't dislike Bell or the fans there at all. In two trips up there I've been treated quite well. Now....our boys have taken a few spankings....but the people have been alright to us on our visits. Maybe if Rockcastle wins one things will change....? :idunno: :D I do know that I'll be rooting for Bell if they go up against say....a team with a sort of.... gold and black rebellious nature.:sssh::D

  8. Rockcastle 27 Pulaski SW 19 Gonna be a cold wet night on a greasy field...missed extra points. Rockcastle needs to keep their fire and concentration level up to get this score. Play a full game with few mental lapses and Rockcastle wins. Take a quarter or worse, a half off............... Fire it up and play to your potential Rockcastle and you'll be okay!

  9. You should'nt try so hard to throw-off on McCreary. Watts is a very good player there is no denying that, but from talking to HOP Roark worked his butt off in the weightroom and it has paid off. He has around 1200 yds rushing with three games to play and last year he had 1000 or so after 11 games. Does he make Watts better? I have looked at the threads dealing with the schools surrounding McCreary County and you don't dog them. Why are you so disgruntled they are only kids. Ease up!

  10. Monday starts a new week and we just have to keep on working. Congradulation to the Rockets and good luck the rest of the year! It was good to see you again papagrit!

Good to see you too and best of luck with your season! I think if you get your linemen focused better and heads up, you all will see some more wins this season. You and Coach are class acts. :thumb:

  11. It was the line that made the difference tonight in my opinion, not to take anything away from McCreary. I did see two large linemen on the sideline for MC tonight on crutches and I'm sure that didn't help their cause any. I'm proud of our boys and the way that they responded after last weeks heartbreaker against Knox Central in OT. They have had some letdowns mentally in two games this season (KC and Pulaski) and let those two get away from them. But, tonight it seems that they came prepared to play the entire game and a certain senior receiver has given them a bit of spark that lasted the entire game this time. I hope that he can continue what he started and be a leader for these boys the rest of the season as they are not nearly as weak as their record of 4-4 shows. They just needed someone to come forward and apply some boot leather to their backsides when the chips were down. Good job boys! :jump: Keep it up!:thumb::thumb::thumb:

  12. I think that if a girl can kick well, there is a niche there for a girl to play. I can think of two reasons that I wouldn't want my daughter to play football unless they made shoulder pads with protective devices like boys have with their cups. I do know of a girl playing little league football nearby, and she is definitely mean enough and stout enough to play with the kids in the sixth grade. Her dad gave in to her begging his permission, and she is good kid and tough little player. But, when she develops, I wonder if she will continue.

    :idunno:

  13. I was trying not to point fingers, Cat!

I forgot about the "no lights" situation at Union. It would be an afternoon saturday game. That is if the Bulldogs were not playing at home....:idunno:

I think this one will be at the new field. I have a suggestion:

Whoever gets tackled, get up fast or drown![/QUOTE]

Nobody likes the look of a soggy wet cat!... :D

Good luck to you LC...and you too Daddy Cat!

A soggy wet winning cat is quite a different story!:thumb:

  14. No. Our daughter totaled her car before we could get out of town. She had two of the Ammon brothers with her and they didn't make the trip over to play, either. Everyone is good. Banged up but good. (I guess this goes along with CITH's post above.) Her car did not survive.....

We were actually on the school grounds to leave when we got the call.:scared:

I'm glad your boys won and most importantly everyone is ok....We passed by the school on the way to Knox Central at about 6:30 and it was pouring the rain...a real nasty night to be on the road. Take care!
