  1. It will be a challenging year for the Rockets. They will have quite a bit of experience as a group with only three regular starters graduating. The offensive line played together with each other most of last season minus the Thacker kid who graduated. Similar circumstances on the defensive line with several kids going one way last year. The skilled positions will especially miss the Saylor kid as well as contributors in Allen and Baker. I know that most all of the returnees have really jumped up on the weights this spring and winter and they have several kids squatting 500+ pounds. There is a lot of hope riding on this season with this great group of kids. Good luck to the Rocket boys!

  2. I think the Saylor kid from Rockcastle has 17, but most of them have been on the road. This is pretty impressive considering they have played less than 25 games.

I heard that he had around 18 before the game against Harrison, which I'm not sure of, I just heard that. He added two more against Harrison to whatever total he had. I sure would like for him to add to the total this next week at districts and for the team to get some W's because of it.

  3. I was really proud of the intensity of the Rock players in that game. They never let down, even when they got the lead. Behind junior Ben Lake's pitching, John L. Saylor hitting two homeruns, Zach Reams' homerun and a pretty good overall offensive effort was a lot of defensive plays by everyone including an excellent play in center field by Josh McKinney that saved a couple of runs. Ben is no super pitcher, but, he won't walk many on a team and will make them become hitters. Great job by the Rocket team! I did hear that Harrison had played several games leading up to this one and that they were a little understaffed in pitching by the time they came to Mt. Vernon which probably contributed to some of the game's final decision.

  4. Doesnt Whitley have a RB back that was good.

I was thinking the same thing. They had a very good running back last year that should return. I don't think they are going to be as bad as you all let on. We'll see about the second game of the year at Rockcastle how good or bad Whitley is. They have been pretty good the last two years.

  5. It was a heck of a game and I'd say they rolled up the sidewalks in Mt. Vernon Saturday as about half the arena was filled with Rockcastle fans. Congrats to a great group of kids! I talked to my wife after the game and reminded her of when our son played against Angie Lawrence in Junior Pro ball and I said, "I wouldn't be surprised if that kid doesn't win a state title before she graduates.". Way to go girls....what a game! Glad I was witness to it! I'm also glad it was Manual that played them as both teams were #1 in the polls and now there isn't much argument that both of them were deserving to be in the game. I was very impressed by all four final four teams in Rockcastle, Manual, Marion and Calloway.

  6. No offense but maybe the thinking like this from parents is the reason Madison Southern hasn't climbed out yet... just a thought? New Coach, New Staff, New Era same ole parents way of thinking... Just a thought brother. Let the past die, and wake up for the new culture. Alot of examples of the same team (players) under different coaches doing very well. It happens all the time.

I agree with this big time!

  7. Hahahaha?

With Bell no longer wanting to be on our schedule, I think Rock/Knox could become a pretty good rivalry. Their games have been really close the past few years.

I agree with this....I think that it should be a pretty good game and have respect for Knox Co. In accordance with my earlier statement on this thread, I think that this game will be close and hope that Rock can come out on the good end of the stick for the first time in three years. This last year was a bit closer than the score showed and the two years before were incredibly close with Knox winning all three. I think the playing field is pretty level between the two teams this year.

  8. First priority is to hire a head coach. Staff, facilities, feeder system, and talent are all pretty much in place. Great opportunity for someone.

I agree! Good luck in getting the new coach in place. KC lost a bunch of talent, but, will return several very good linemen in Grubbs and Diamond and will have a Canady, QB Barger and Turpin? back.

  9. This is what is WRONG with Madison Southern football. People are already trying to set him up for failure and he hasn't even met his team yet. Let the guy see what he can do, he is only 32 I think so I'm sure he is full of energy and ready to get this show on the road. Give him time first and then come to a conclusion. I know I have written some negative things on here because Southern has not had their act together the last three years. Let clean the clate and see what happens.

    GO EAGLES...and welcome Coach Clark!

Good attitude!....keep it up and get the kids involved with this attitude, especially if the chips are down...give this coach a chance...I wish you all the best over there at Southern.

To the questions about Southern playing Rockcastle.....the answer is no. They will not play this year and likely not next year as most of contracts are two year home and away contracts.

  10. I talked to Bill and he said he has no certain idea of who will be the new head coach. He said that it was up to Gilliam and that he and only he had someone in mind and that he (Bill) has not personally spoken to anyone about who the new coach will be as he (Bill) doesn't know either. He also isn't the current booster president anymore. He hopes that an anouncement will be made in the next week or so as he wants to know as well. I hope Southern gets a dandy of a coach and wish them and my young cousins luck in a succesful season....but it sounds like "The Man"(Gilliam) is the only man in the know. BTW...Bill is my cousin and after reading all of this stuff online himself, he thinks that all of this heresay is ridiculous.

  11. Southern fan,

The Pulaski Coach was contacted and declined. Paul Rains and David Hensley did apply for the job but never got an interview and both were interested. That came from three coaches who are in the building right now. Salmons has been offered the job that came from the booster president. Craig Yeast and Fred Hoskins were in the building last week and that came from the booster president and the coaches in the building who talked to them, I spoke to all of them. So, Southern fan, again all of this is true information.

I don't really have a dog in this fight...lol. But I think I may know the booster president, is his first name Bill?

  12. My sources tell me ShaDon Brown from Rowan Co will be the next head coach, just what I heard. I also heard they tried to get Hines from Pulaski, but he wouldnt go.

I don't see Brown coming to Southern as he has a good thing going on up in Rowan County with what seemed like plenty of support and a pretty good setup with several key players coming back this next season....I think that Wing (QB) is just a junior this year? If he does come to Berea, it will be suprising to me. JMO
