  1. I know I heard his name last year. Was he just in the rotation?

Not much at the varsity level. Antonio was the star of the JV team last season, which went undefeated, but not a lot of time at the varsity level. Our QB last season was a fine young man named CJ Croft. CJ was a three-year starter and I believe he was named to the 2nd team all-state. We thought that replacing CJ was going to be the real challenge for FC this season, but then along came Antonio.

  2. I would loved to have seen this game in person. I listened on the web and will get to see a replay tomorrow. I was going then changed my mind.

I would like to have seen Antonio play, he sounds like the real deal.

I know one of the refs from the game, can't wait to talk to him tomorrow.

You missed a dandy of a game!

FC doesn't get near the media coverage as a lot of the teams in KY, so the Antonio Andrews story has been slow getting out there. He did make the AP All-State honorable mention team at QB, which is a start. He can do it all: run, throw, catch, even played defensive back today in some situations.

When FC was down 20 - 13, I know Antonio never flinched he has ice water in his veins. He truly believes that at any moment he can change the game. In the last scoring sequence he threw a 50 + yard pass for a winning TD which was called back by a penalty. What does he do the very next play? Does he get discouraged, shake his head at the ref, or yell at his teammate? No, Antonio catches a 50 + yard pass, jukes half the NCC team out of their shoes and wins the game.

I think he will be in the final mx for Mr. Football next year. I know the Collinsworth boy from Highlands is the sexy pick, but Antonio from the little 2A school at the Fort is for real!!

  3. I expect FC to be in the Championship again next year, so the location doesn't matter.

I will probably go both days next year though, just based on the shorter drive to Bowling Green. Western just completed a multi-million dollar improvement project on their stadium, which I assume will include new turf prior to next season. The stadium is also smaller than Papa John's so it should provide a louder and more intimate atmosphere.

  4. Congrats to Monroe County Head Coach John Petett on being named Co-Coach Of The Year along with Larry French of Boyle County...

John has worked very hard not only as head coach but shares the responsibilities of athletic director as well. I'm sure John would give all the credit to those around him but he definitely deserves this award, not only for the hard work but the difficult decisions he has had to make along the way...

I know this was already posted in the Duece Finch thread, but thought it deserved it’s own…

Congratulations Coach Petett & the Monroe County program!!

  5. Here is a link to the All Western Kentucky Conference team. There is a listing for the overall All WKC team and the small school team (Classes 1-3A).

It is nice to see a 1A school like Crittenden County with so many players recognized for their performance.

Raquan Durrante missed several games following the injury at Paducah Tilghman nice to see him named.

  6. I was looking at the map and saw that most of Ft. Campbell is Tennesse. Do the players live in Ky or Tenn. I also saw that the QB was named Tenn TiTans player of the week 2 weeks ago. Maybe someone can help me with the details.

Fort Campbell is a military installation on Federal property, it doesn't belong to TN or KY. As Bill Williams stated, the Post Office and the 101st Airborne Division headquarters are on the KY side of the post. Fort Campbell has a KY zip code, 42223. There are housing areas where the families and players live throughout the post both on the KY and TN side of the line.

I have no idea how long Ft. Campbell has been a member of the KHSAA, but it has been a very long time. The Scribe would probably know the answer.

Antonio Andrews was named Tennessee Titans High School Player of the Week a few weeks ago. Ft. Campbell is served by the Nashville, TN media market. The Ft. Campbell military community has received great support from the Tennessee Titans & Nashville Predators NHL team.

  7. True, but would you say that you are the same exact team as last year? Just because we play the same teams as last year does not mean they are the SAME team as last year, there is time for improvement. NCC has for the most part played the same teams as last year, with the exception adding a better team or two.

FC is not the same team as last year. The current team makes last year's Falcons seem slow. Everybody was impressed at the Championship last year with the team speed and athletes on the FC squad. I can't wait until the coach opens the bus door and the current FC squad takes the field; many will be shocked again.

The scary thing for every school in 2A is this was supposed to be a rebuilding year for FC. There are only 10 Seniors on the team and some of them don't start. Next year's team will be in a league all of their own.

  8. Congratulations to all especially Coach Petett from Monroe County and all the Fort Campbell players!!

    Josh Carter 1st Team LB

    Anthony Topps 2nd Team DL

    Raquan Durante 2nd Team DB

Antonio Andrews Honorable Mention QB (Next Year's Mr. Football)

    Chris Allen Honorable Mention Receiver

    Max Moser Honorable Mention OL

  9. I don't know the guy or even where Monroe County is located but it looks as if this award was well deserved for Mr. Pettet.

    Monroe County's record in 2007 = 2-9

    Monroe County's record in 2008 = 12-2

    Job well done.

The Monroe County turn around is one of the least covered stories in KY football this year. Coach Pettet has done a tremendous job and I am glad he is being recognized with this much deserved honor.

I was in Tompkinsville last Friday night for the 2A semi-final and the atmosphere was fantastic for high school football. Congratulations!!

  10. I nominate Ft. Campbell Senior Linebacker Josh Carter.

    #57

    6'2" 235lbs.

I quote The Scribe "According to the video replay, Josh Carter had 19 solo tackles, six assists, four tackles for loss, and three sacks."

Josh Carter refused to lose and ultimately inspired his team to come from behind against Monroe County in the 2A Semi-Final.

We all know the personal challenges he has went through this season, yet he continues to inspire others!

The following article says it all:

    http://www.theleafchronicle.com/article/20081206/HSSPORTS01/812060342

  11. 1)Highlands - I watched Highlands play Hopkinsville this year and they were impressive to say the least. Not big, just disciplined and aggressive like a bunch of pit bulls.

2)Fort Campbell - Not a big team based on body bulk. A team based on extreme speed and head bustin' angles of attack.

Trinity - if they are big and throw massive amounts of weight around the gym, they may not fit into the spirit of this poll. It is expected of them, they are achieving not over achieving.

  12. You guys nailed the 2a and 4a playoff previews

    2a

    STATE SEMIFINALS

Fort Campbell 28 Monroe County 13 (FC 34-18)

Newport Central Catholic 21 Corbin 7 (Ncc 26-7)

    4a

    State Semi-Finals

Bullitt East 24 Lone Oak 21 (BE by 3 over Calloway)

Bell County 21 Boyle County 14 (Bell by 2)

You also correctly picked Beechwood, Central, and Highlands to make the final game. The only shutout was in 6a.

Nice job predicting the 2A Semifinals. I believe The Scribe's predictions for the 2A Championship will be the other way around though!
