Definitely Rudy. Not when he takes the field, but when they carry him off. -

I'd be willing to bet Henley doesn't care about the rankings right now, but does care about preparing his team for tournament time. Having said that, Holmes could've sat back in a zone with Pittman in the middle and had an easier time with Connor. Connor isn't the type of team that's going to shoot the lights out and the Holmes' guards are quick enough to defend out top on a zone. By playing a m2m, it'll help Holmes down the road. Also, Hicks had a great game plan. His team played great m2m team defense. He's not only a top coach in the 9th, but I'd even submit he's one of the top coachs in the state. -

How are they working the gate? Is it one price for all day? Surely, they're not clearing the gym after each game. -

Agreed! This official was terribly inconsistent. He's done games at SOAS in Florence and is bad there also. I was actually surprised they didn't go with three officials. Isn't it the home team that decides number of officials? Based on what should've been an anticipated physical game, three officials would've been warranted. -
Walton-Verona @ Boone Co. predictions
deceivingly slow replied to bballfan15's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Walton has some talent, but are very young. They will need to shoot well and hope Boone gets into some foul trouble. Last year, Boone was simply more physical. I'd expect something similar tonight. -
To some extent, it's a building year for both teams. Both teams will be much better next year.

Campbell County 78 Pendleton Co 56

Didn't realize he was an 8th grader. He looked good in the JV game. He has a very fundamentally sound form on his shot. He definitely will be a player to watch for in a couple of years. -

Nerl (sp?) is easily CC's best player. He must've had 20 by half-time. CC seems to be a team that won't hurt themselves...pretty smart players out there. PC didn't play anyone over 6 or 6'1". CC was just too big. Not sure about the region, but anyone with some size will give PC trouble. -
To clarify, the Burns from the early 80's and the Burns playing now are related - father & son.

This brings to mind, if I remember correctly, the Rhomes boy from Beechwood (now graduated and playing collegiately) comes to mind. Sat the bench at CC, transfers to Beechwood and is instantly one of the best players in the region. -
When and where does this take place? Are these scrimmages?

Boone County Schools

So, someone help me out here. Why aren't there mega-schools in Northern Ky.? When Ryle was built, why didn't they make it large enough to incorporate growth, thereby preventing the need for a Cooper High? I don't buy the, "they couldn't anticipate the growth" argument. Anyone could see that coming. I'm guessing there's a very logical explanation, but I can't think of it. -

How does the enrollment numbers for the high schools in Boone County compare with those in Louisville and/or Lexington? I've heard enrollment numbers at schools are larger in Louisville and Lex, thus a larger talent pool which means better talent. The argument being that if say, Connor and Boone combined into one school they'd be as competitive as any school in the state. Any logic to that? -
At one of our away games in high school, the home team played "You Drop the Bomb on Me" by The Gap Band.

Campbell Co 2008/2009

Was at the scrimmage, but am not familiar with players. Here's my take: Williamstown is small and shot the ball poorly. They will struggle this year. Campbell didn't shoot the ball particularly well either. The tall, slim left-hand boy looks to be a nice player. I'm guessing some of the football players are still getting adjusted. -

A thick-headed move by KHSAA. Campbell should still be in the 9th (along with Simon Kenton). -

Walton 7th grade should be one of the better teams in the area. Last night against Carroll, Walton scored the first 25 points of the game. I'll grant you Carroll is weak, but they're still a talented group that'll be fun to watch in the next few years. -
If you're out of shape, it'll be obvious on the court.. You then give them minimal court time and cut them after day 1. Running beforehand seems like a waste of time for the coach.

Ego is a big reason. Someone should make this coach return his copy of Coach Carter to Blockbuster. Thank goodness a guy like Dikembe Mutombo (who didn't begin playing basketball until he was 18) didn't have a coach like this.
