  1. I would have to agree with that statement. I would also think that if he did not do something pretty soon he would be hanging Whitley out to dry, as it is getting late in the summer (contract wise) to be leaving them. If he were to leave now it would really limit the coaches who could take the job due to contractual obligations to their schools. No doubt he is a good coach and with his kids already at Corbin I think it would be a no brainer to go, but Corbin and Ledington should move as quickly as possible, so that Whitley could get a good coach.
  2. Footbal result may have led to the baseball result, happy with one and settled. To a certain extent they have been successful, but honestly no sport has approached the success of the football team. Don't let this one game dampen nice careers from Greer and Co. To Overbay and Greer, congrats on moving on to the next level and good luck in college, remember its just a game, work hard in practice and harder in the class room.
  3. Well I don't disagree with what you are saying but they had conferenced twice about the lightning twice prior to the stoppage. If they saw it and talked about it then at that point it was bad enough not to continue play but they allowed play to continue for several more minutes, that was my point.
  4. It would be my guess and this is only a guess, that Garmon was trying to save him should the Hounds get to the finals against South. Bell on the other hand was able to get by despite some very shakey defense and hold their ace to the finals. I thought it was an entertaining game even if it was not most well played (error after error). I know that you have to make decisions based on the safety of the kids, but I thought that the Umpires pulled the trigger early on the delays. I thought that the delays hurt Corbin by stopping their momentum, and cooled the pitcher down, giving the advantage to Bell coming out with runners in scoring positions.
  5. Regardless of if the rule is right or wrong, it is currently the rule and people have trying to circumvent the rule for years. I hate the seat belt law but I have to follow it or get a ticket, becuase it is the law. If you don't like the rule (which I don't) change the rule. Personally, I think you should get one transfer, flat. Then if you decide that you need to move again, you sit, flat. Pretty clear concise and to the point. I just get serioulsy fatigued by people who know the rules then break them and whine about it. Of course I also get fatigued by the folks who move for six weeks and the KHSAA gives them a nod and wink and they are eligible. One move, eligible, two moves sit fixes that.
  6. Out of the seven seniors who willl graduate, which one will be the toughest to replace? Beside the Bryant kid who will be the interesting incoming freshmen? Is Jamie Lebanioin being recruited by anybody?
  7. I think that it boils down to several questions...... Parking..... Seating capacity........ Locker room facilities....... NO SPLIT SESSIONS......... Good for the schools......... Good for the teams......... I think that the Arena can answer all of these in the positive, while the schools cannot answer in the positive to every question. While I like the atmosphere at the schools, if every school regardless of participation can make money then I think it is good. Heck the last year Cawood hosted they reported that they made ZERO money. Love may be what makes the world go round but MONEY is the axis that it spins on. If it was not that way there would be no split sessions. Plus the arena will give them a feel for the big stage that they could play on later should they win. All the rest is just static in my opinion How many people commenting on the arena have even visited it. I have, and like the set up. I think from my name it is safe to say I am not a Corbin fan, but the arena could be a positive to everyone in SEKY if people would just open their minds a little bit.
  8. I am sure that the rings have been a motivating factor for the up coming team. Silver is certainly nice, but a gold one with CHAMPION on it would also be nice and the team has redoubled their efforts in the weight room. Will the Colonels have the type of season (almost magical) that they had last year, that remains to be seen but they will be busting their tailends to take it to the next level. I was never much of a Bear Bryant fan, but with the above post about the "Junction Boys" ring, I am now a fan. No doubt about it, he like many other of our posters "got it"
  9. Which kid are you talking bout..... Keith Whitley? Dalton Sizemore? Cody Jones? Jason Powers?
  10. Whitley will be working hard to get a gold ring this season, just like they have been working since the end of last season. The kids are getting stronger and faster, and with the addition of Lex Cath, and Belfry to the schedule it will be a challenge. But it will be a challenge that the kids will not back down from. Also with addition of Harlan County Blackbears it will be a fun season as all the Colonels have great respect for Tom Larkey. There are certainly some holes to fill, but the expections are there and that will make it fun. The line should be better than average, and backs motivated to live up to what last years backs did. All in all I am looking forward to August.
  11. :deadhorse: You have no clue as to what their goals are........think what you want, and yeah we look forward to hosting the defending state champions next season.
  12. It is a nice silver ring, which has "Band of Brothers" on it which means alot to all the players, it has the record, and a black stone with a silver "W". It represents alot to the kids who went from 2-9 to 12-2. That team was a true brotherhood. That ring is just as important to the players at Whitley as the rings at Bell. Although not a state champion ring, it does not have to be, the ring represents the blood sweat and tears that it took get to a championship level. It also represents and comemorates a true Band of Brothers, a group a players who were willing to sacrifice themselves for their team........... From this day, till the ending of the world, We in it, shall be remembered. We lucky few, We Band of Brothers For today, he who shed his blood with me, Shall be my Brother......................................William Shakespear Yeah I think is safe to say that to each player that wears that ring thinks it is pretty daggum important.
  13. Its funny how people HEAR that the officials are bad but who did they hear it from? Of course it is always a bias spectator. A win is a win, give the boys their due.
  14. So if it is sad for giving your kids a ring for winning the region, which is the first one for boys in school history, then it is sad for getting a ring for winning a SEC championship or conference championship. Seen a bunch of those walking around and those are not National Championship rings. They give out AFC/NFC championship rings, but that is sad because it is not a Super Bowl ring, RIGHT??? I'd say that it is watered down in college sports because there are so many conferences. At least that is what you people who are complaining are saying. Just be happy for the kids, at least that is what you should be doing.
  15. Glad your team made it to the finals two years ago. I also sorry they did not win it whoever they maybe. Dont try and degrade what a team did, and how people choose to recognize them for their accomplishments and hard work. This thread is suppose to be about next year anyway.
  16. If it is so sad, Cry about it. The rings that the kids got were for what they earned.
  17. South Beat Bell. Whitley Beat South. For my money I will take Ledington. I was never had an argument about Smith or Ledington. I just think that Ledington is doing a good job at Whitley. 12-8 is pretty good after a 1-7 start. And it is not how you start it is how you finish, which remains to be seen for all the teams at this point.
  18. I look for the Martin kid on the mound for South today, he is a crafty pitcher who can really blow it by guys at times. Should be a great game. Good Luck Colonels.
  19. Ranked or not, Whitley won games last year with a punishing running attack, and they dominated teams physically throughout the season.
  20. Yes but for one who ragged Coach Ledington's record early questioning whether he was getting it done or not I guess they all do matter, and yes yesterdays game mattered, if the Colonels had not won it today's would not matter, so everyday every game matters. Everyday every game gets bigger. Man, I love baseball!!!!!
  21. Ledington has done a great job with his team, if he had not had the injuries to some of his pitchers he may have had an even better record. I think that with South beating Bell, Bell beating Clay, Clay beating Whitley, and Whitley beating South, a person could make a valid arguement that the region is wide open at this point, and there may not be a clear cut favorite. I will say that I think the 50th District is the toughest district in the region at this point in time.
  22. South Laurel 4-0 2-0 verses Williamsburg (11-1, 21-1) 2-0 verses Corbin (6-5, 7-4) 0-0 Whitley County Whitley County 3-1 2-0 verses Williamsburg (8-2, 7-0) 1-1 verses Corbin (3-9, 15-3) 0-0 verses South Laurel Corbin 1-3 0-2 verses South Laurel (5-6, 4-7) 1-1 verses Whitley County (9-3, 15-3) 0-0 Williamsburg Williamsburg 0-2 verses Whitley County (0-7, 2-8) 0-2 verses South Laurel (1-11, 1-12) 0-0 verses Corbin Looks like Williamsburg will be the 4 seed, the 1, 2, 3, seeds are still up in the air. It will be settled when South and Whitley meet next week.. Thoughts?
  23. Final The Colonels bats come alive and they split the series in games 1-1 Colonels win series on points, 19-12 Ted Clifford pitched agreat game!!
  24. You could be right, if you read closely I said they could be the favorite. I don't think there is much difference between the two teams, in fact there may not be much difference between SL, CHS, and WCHS. I think it will make for some competitive district games.
  25. Not so fast there cards1b21, South struggled with North and Whitley handled them ahhhh I guess you could say "Handily" If Clifford pitches, I think that Whitley will be the favorite. He has been very strong on the mound. If Whitley can score some runs they will be in good shape. Ledington will return to the dugout Monday and be there for the forseeable future, which is good for the Colonels. I think that it is good that the game is being played now, I think that once Josh Smith gets into better shape for pitching and Hendrickson comes around the Hounds will be better, but right now I think Whitley could be the favorite in this game.
