The the fact that he is from Corbin is hearsay from fans at a ball game? Well then it must be the truth then. Sounds like whomever made the ref assignments made an error then.

Nobody has thrown out the refs name or any facts saying that ref is from Corbin either. Like I said, when you are a ref and have fans calling you names and making threats towards you it may make you dislike the other team. That may not be the right thing to do as a ref, but it is certainly possible. If you were doing your job and someone is threatening to catch you outside after work and etc.. Or if someone is yelling and calling you fat and/or baldy in front of hundreds of other people how does that make you feel? Would it make you want to do things to make those people happy? I think not.

"Opponents have their hands so firmly on the ball" quick whitstle IMO is before the opponents have hands FIRMLY on the ball. There is no rule about a quick whistle to prevent undue roughness. The held ball call is used a lot of times as a cop out call by the ref.

I know the officials made some bad calls. I also know that "bald" ref is a human being and when people start yelling deragatory (sp?) comments towards him and calling him names that may get in his head and affect the way he starts seeing things. I remember once in the third quarter when there was an obvious bad call in Corbin's favor the two coaches looked at each other with sarcastic smiles and traded comments. Feldhaus said "What was that?" and Pietrowski responded "you have got every call so far." Feldhaus shook his head in agreement and let the argument go. Bad officiating is part of the game. It happens in every tournament, every game, on everyone's court.

Exactly. You disagree but you really agree. The game should be played the way it was intended by the rules. There should be no held ball called if in fact there is no held ball. A pile on is a foul and should be called on whoever makes the contact. Calling a jump ball is the easy way out. I tend to think if the refs had to toss the ball up at every jump ball then there would be far less held ball calls.

Whitley County is fun to watch. They get after it and their coach (Baker) seems to be a classy guy as well. I think this program is headed on the upswing for sure!

Yeah, I just haven't seen much of Middlesboro this year. South is definately rebuilding this year though. They are going to have stretches of struggling times.

Great post Comic Book Guy. It has been a really long time since I heard fans of a losing team say "boy, they really whipped us tonight. We should have played better." Of course it is always the refs fault.

I was just talking to someone at last nights game about this very situation. Several times the ref called a jump ball without BOTH teams actually having their hands on the ball. Is it fair to player A who dives to the floor and gets possession of the ball to have the whistle blown because player B is diving towards him? Here is a novel idea...how about it player B is out of control and going to cause injury then he gets called for a foul instead of being rewarded for his wreckless play? I think sometimes the refs make a jump ball call to avoid making another call.

Great post. I was there and hey, there is always bad calls at games. Refs are human beings that make mistakes. How about the one when Corbin makes a steal and has possession of the ball and THEN MC coach calls timeout??? When you take the ball strong to the basket and the other team is worn out from pressing and playing man defense then you are going to get hacked! I have never seen as much cry baby stuff over a HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT that doesn't really amount to a hill of beans! What ref in their right mind would try to influence the outcome of a meaningless game. Madison Central is a very good basketball team, but they need to stop reaching in and hand checking so much. Either do that or quit complaining about the refs making the calls.

How was the officiating in WV's loss tonight? I didn't see this one.

When you shoot from beyond the 3-point arc all night and never take the ball to the basket then you aren't going to get fouled a lot. From what I understand WV is a very good 3-point shooting team and this is their game plan, so their fans better learn to deal with not shooting many free throws. They seem to be pretty good so their strategy must work for them.

Actually the difference in the fouls called was simple. South Laurel a much taller team took the ball inside more often and got fouled going to the basket. Walton-Verona came down and jacked up 3-pointers all night long. You are not going to get fouled a lot when you do that. There were some missed calls that stood out to me, such as when SL was bringing the ball down court and pushed off a couple of times to make room for the dribbler. There was also a couple of calls the went the Bearcats' way. Both teams played hard. South Laurel started 4 players that don't get to play very much at all. After trailing 13-10 going into the second quarter coach Wright put his real starters back in there and they went on to dominate the second quarter 25-8. Both of these teams are good teams and deserve credit. I have seen far worse officiating in basketball games. I have seen worse this year.

South Laurel knocked off a very game opponent in Walton-Verona 62-56. Corbin blew out Somerset behind a strong second half performance 66-47. (Madison Johnson was unbelievable in the 4th) Whitley County trailed Casey County by 16, but came back to win 77-75 I saw those three games... These I didn't see.. North Laurel beat Harlan Boone County beat Knox Central in OT Adair County beat Cawood Madison Central beat Jackson County I believe Rockcastle County beat Leslie County
