I always smile a little bigger when Paintsville loses :thumb: Sounds like they are down a little this season.
A little???

We will get a good measuring stick on December 20th at Bourbon County when #3 or #4 Elliott County plays #1 Class 3A South Charleston, WVA in a 7:45 nightcap game.
I watched South Charleston play last year and unless they've picked up some players they are not the same caliber of the top team in Kentucky. They defeated Paintsville by 3 points at the Expo Center and were not an overly impressive team.
-
Most of the time when Hood had the ball Elliott would send two players at him to make him give it up. Unfortunately for Mville nobody else could do anything with it. Hood was clearly the most talented player on the floor...

I understand that Shelby Valley won their game against Muhlenberg South by a score of 79-34...

I'll be there... at least for the last two games.

And how does that compare to Hazard missing two returning starters and a potential third starter?
I agree that Hazard was weakened by missing 2 starters... I think if they had been there Hazard would have been able to give SV a much more competitive game. :thumb:
-
I understand that Hazard was missing quite a few of it's players, but I'm not sure the 9th, 10th, and 11th man make that much of a difference... But if we're counting them then SV was also missing it's 8th, 9th, and 10th players in Cody Varney, Logan Lucas, and Dylan Tackett...

I think Hazard and SV are two pretty evenly matched teams. SV has a significant size advantage, but Hazard seems to be a physically tougher team. The guard situation is pretty much a tossup (depending on what you like from a point guard) with Justice and Whitaker. I think both of these teams could be very successful in the All A.

Shelby Valley built a lead of 15 or so in the first half, but Hazard continued to fight. Whitaker did a nice job of keeping his dribble alive and creating shots for Warren and Jones on the interior. Shelby Valley's defensive intensity was lacking, and Hazard got alot of putbacks on the offensive glass. Pretty nice battle between Justice and Whitaker. Not sure of the stats other than turnovers with 6 for Whitaker and 0 for Justice. Good competitive scrimmage for both teams...

He will also play for one of Kentucky's top aau team in the newly formed Kentucky Elite Basketball which features some of the top kids in the state in the class of 2013.
You can check out their website here: http://www.kyelitebasketball.com/
Also, notice 6'7" seventh grader Cody Belter from Dorton (a Shelby Valley feeder school) next to Patrick Patterson...

Hazard @ Shelby Valley on 11/19

I see this matchup as a toss up. Hazard has the experience factor over KCC, but KCC has the advantage at the guard position. Warren is also a nice player for Hazard in addition to the three you mentioned.
-
I would think Shelby Valley has one of the taller teams with it's top 4 front court players being 6'10", 6'3", 6'6", and 6'7"...

The 15th this year is even weaker than usual as a whole...
-
You see publicity on them from people from the mountains, but not as much from a statewide perspective...
-
Nice to see Elisha Justice get a mention. He is a very overlooked talent...

How good is the McClanahan kid at East Ridge?
There is absolutely no way that the kid is a top 10 player in the region. He is at best the 3rd best player on his team. His ranking is based solely on height and none on ability.

What class is Devan Adams in?
Senior
-
Devan Adams 6'9" from Shelby Valley is a pretty talented big man. Not one of the best in the state, but has pretty good athleticism for a big guy...
-
As both Matt Jones and Jerry Tipton reported in their blogs, Madisonville's senior John Hood and Shelby Valley's junior Elisha Justice looked really good yesterday.
It's nice to see Elisha get the attention that he deserves. His height and the fact that he is from the mountains has made people overlook him. He isn't a superstar type player, but his PG skills, defense, and quickness are top notch...

Was ashland that good tonight or is Pikeville just that bad?
Let's just say that this isn't your father's Pikeville...
