Shelby Valley has a young team that began the season starting 3 sophomores. The starting center, sophomore Taylor Newsome, was lost for the season with an injury at a tourney at J-town. The team leaders are 6'1" senior Jacob Bryant (#32), 6'6" sopohmore Ashley Hatfield (#12), and 5'10" sophomore Elisha Justice (#3)...

No. I have a nephew's birthday party today... Shelby Valley's only other game against a 16th Region team was at Ashland earlier in the season and Valley won 76-59. However, Valley was playing better ball at that point in the season than they are now...
-
Shelby Valley puts ALOT of pressure on the other teams guards. Valley doesn't really have an inside presence, but does have a couple of slender 6'6" guys. The PG #3 creates most of Valleys offense, other than what they get from their defense. Not a great shooting team, but they do pass the ball extremely well. Are you going to the game?

Any thoughts?

What type of team does Raceland have (size, style, etc.)?

Actually, the whole state got to see him last year at the Sweet 16. Unless he's improved by a bundle since last year, I have a hard time buying that he's a more complete player than Slone.
He has improved dramatically since last season, especially in his physical development. He is without question the quickest player in the region, the best ballhandler in the region, and far and away the best defender in the region. Slone is a better scorer than Justice, but IMO that has more to do with mentality and confidence than ability. :thumb:

I've watched Landon play since 7th grade and he is a pretty nice player, but in no way would he ever see playing time at UK. He lacks the ball handling ability and athleticism to contribute at that level. He's not a top 5 player in the state, but got some recognition from Painstville's run in the All A.
On a side note... due to an early exit by Shelby Valley in the All A regional, the state missed an opportunity to see IMO the most complete player in the 15th in Elisha Justice.

Really surprised to see Perry Co. put up 80...

Possibly Garrison Collins from JBS, if you need a big man...

That's more like I expected. What was different about this game that allowed the outcome to be so different?
Shelby Valley came into this game with alot more intensity after losing the last game. Valley upped their half court pressure forcing Pikeville into 25 turnovers. Shelby Valley is a very good team when they are forcing turnovers and scoring in transition. If you can get them into a half court game they become much more beatable...

Final from Pikeville...

Pretty impressive win for a road game...

Slone is 6'4" and a true guard who is quick, can jump, handle the ball on the break and make good decisions, and shoot from all over. Bill Mike Runyon keeps asking where are the colleges and that he is as good as any player he has had and we know Paintsville in the 90s had some terrific players. Kid will make a nice player for a team like Marshall where JR Vanhoose had a good career.
Slone is a good scorer but lacks in the athleticism department. He does not have good jumping ability, and is far from being as good as anyone that has come through Paintsville. He's not anywhere in the same league as players like Vanhoose, Pelphrey, Adkins, and even Tackett for that matter...
-
Not sure about that ??? Slone is good but Pikeville playing well & with a 6'10 player playing well ?? !!
Pikeville has one quality win on the season and that was against Shelby Valley. Every other good team that they've played they have lost to:
Dobyns-Bennett - Lost by 15
Male - Lost by 28
Trinity - Lost by 24
June Buchanan - Lost by 46
Shelby Valley - Lost by 15
Paintsville - Lost by 3
Pikeville has yet to prove that they can play with anyone good outside the 15th...
-
I'm glad to see that Paintsville won this game. They will represent the 15th much better than Pikeville would have...
-
Paintsville will roll over South Floyd and await the winner of Shelby Valley/Pikeville in the finals...

I normally think the 15th region is very weak
I think you answered your own question. The 15th doesn't have a great recent history in the Sweet 16, and people won't give them respect until they earn it in Rupp...
-
Sheldon Clark is one of the weaker teams in the 15th...

Does anyone know the enrollment criteria used for the All A Classic?

I am a 15th region fan, and Montgomery Co. got absolutely ripped off in this one. The officiating was very one sided, and MC's coach was very upset for most of the game. PCC wouldn't have come away with the W if not for the officiating.
