Question....heard some people at the game last night say that Ark. was looking at #3 justice. Any truth to this?
I know Pelphrey has been in contact with him numerous times. It is my understanding that former Paintsville coach Bill Mike Runyon was the one that put Pelphrey onto him...
-
But he played at Pikeville last year right?
Yep.
-
Adams has improved a ton since I seen him at Pikeville. Not bad when you look up and see a 6 10 guy walk in your school.
Adams is actually originally from the Shelby Valley area...
-
I think after this tourney Shelby Valley would be favored against Mason and GRC.
-
See some of my posts from page 1...you'll see that you and I are on the same page about SV. I know they're a VERY GOOD team. I've said ANYBODY in the state would have trouble matching up with them.
From talking to several folks who were at this game, SV wins by 15-20 if they make their free throws throughout the game.
SV missed 11 straight free throws down the stretch.

Can we all atleast agree that maybe EC was ranked a little too high when people had them in not only the top 3, but also the top 5?
I think Shelby Valley is just better than you think. They lost to Knott Central without their best player, thats their only in state loss and all their losses came when Justice was hurt. SV can play with absolutely anybody in this state, they have great guard play, quickness, and size. I think they are at the very least one of the top 5 or 6 teams in the state at this point.

Shelvy Valley is the one team EC will have the most trouble matching up with because of the size in their front court. Heck, even Holmes would have trouble matching up with SV. Knipp will have a lot of trouble against the 6'10 kid from Valley and Ferguson will have trouble against 6'6 Hatfield.
You won't see SV match up to anyone in man-to-man, as they pretty much exclusively play a 2-3 zone. Valley's guards are relatively small at 5'11 and 5'10, but the front court goes 6'3, 6'6, and 6'10 with 6'7 and 6'5 coming off the bench...

I'm afraid the Shelby Valley players may be a little too focused on playing Elliott County. While Elliott appears to have a cakewalk to the semi's, I think SV will have to play a pretty good game to beat the Danville/NCC winner, and I'm not sure about Henry County since I've not seen them play. If SV is looking ahead to Elliott then they may fall before they get there.

I don't understand why the Saturday games are scheduled so early. That puts the teams that play late on Friday at a disadvantage. They will probably finish up at midnight and are schedule to play at 1:30 the next day. That doesn't seem like good scheduling to me since the championship isn't until 3:00 on Sunday...

Massey High School Basketball Matchup sees it like this:
Lyon County over Edmonson County 63-53
LCA over Bardstown 67-65
Murray over Shawnee 62-58
Hazard over Clinton County 56-36
Pineville over Calvary Christian 67-65
Elliott County over Whitefield Academy??? 96-49
Shelby Valley over Henry County 66-40
NCC over Danville 56-51
LCA over Lyon 67-63
Hazard over Murray 59-47
Elliott County over Pineville 95-57
Shelby Valley over NCC 60-48
Hazard over LCA 63-54
Elliott County over Shelby Valley 84-72
Elliott County over Hazard 78-63

The matchups (according to Dave Cantrall) look like this:
#11 Edmonson County vs. #8 Lyon County
#5 Bardstown vs. #7 Lexington Christian
#6 Murray vs. #9 Shawnee
#12 Clinton County vs. #3 Hazard
#15 Calvary Christian vs. #13 Pineville
#16 Whitefield Academy/Collegiate winner vs. #1 Elliott County
#2 Shelby Valley vs. #14 Henry County
#10 Danville vs. #4 Newport Central Catholic
Elliott County's quad includes the #13, #15, and #16 seed. That could make for a cakewalk for them to the semi's.

Final from the 14th All A...
-
Final from the 15th Region All A championship game...
-
To me, the future of the 15th looks even worse than the present... The junior high ranks are the worst I've seen them in years.
-
Final from the semi's at the East Ky Expo Center...
-
I see Shelby Valley and Hazard in the finals.
Shelby Valley is still nursing a few injuries and would need to be at full strength to even get to Elliott County.
-
I don't see anyone really challenging Elliot for the all A championship this year, but I could be wrong.
Hazard is capable of beating Elliott IMO.

I think they play Bath Co -- Monday evening
I dont know the exact time
7:30

I was just curious about scheduling for different schools. Shelby Valley for the season (not counting the All A or State) will have 8 in-state out-of-region games and 5 out-of-state games, for a total of 13 non-region games...
-
Alot of you haven't seen him but Elisha Justice from Shelby Valley is up there. He is on pace to set the all time steals record in the state of Kentucky, and I feel safe in saying that he has as good of handles as anyone in the state...
-
This one was never a contest as Shelby Valley started the game off on a 17-0 run...
-
I believe the deal on the Shelby Valley game was that:
1) It was a long ride to Pike Co from Lexington
2) It was the first time those kids had been that deep in the Appalachian Mountains.
They were way outside their comfort zone. I think that was part of the reason for the huge differential. The other was a very good Shelby Valley team.
You may be correct. Also, youth was probably somewhat of a factor. They do have a pretty athletic bunch.
-
I find Henry Clay's scores surprising after watching Shelby Valley beat them by 37... They must have had a terribly off night. This is an impressive win for them.
-
Tate Cox from Knott County Central is a nice player also...

I don't think "hope" is the right word. I think defense can be a huge factor...
