So how much longer before the reality of economics in today's economy sets in and forces consolidation to happen in the 15 and 16 Regions?
The 15th region is too spread out for any more consolidation. In the past 20 years the 15th has had:
Virgie + Dorton = Shelby Valley
Johns Creek + Mullins = Pike County Central
Elkhorn City + Millard + Feds Creek = East Ridge
McDowell + Wheelwright = South Floyd
The top three of those consolidations were all within Pike County, so you had 7 schools narrowed down to 3, and we still have Belfry, Phelps, and Pikeville in Pike County. The geographic area of the 15th doesn't really allow for any more consolidation.

One thing that can be guaranteed is that SV will have the quicker guards and the best ball handler on the floor. Quickest backcourt in the state IMO.
-
Boone Co. running away with it now.
Maybe more of a fast walk...

From the floor to the stands to the parking lot, it was the Saturday night main event!
And don't forget the radio announcer that was tossed at the beginning of the second half. I don't think I've ever seen that before...
-
One of the more physical games I've seen this year. Someone said there were 51 fouls called in the game...
-
Prestonsburg. Lawrence County should be a pretty heavy favorite.

Final from the 14th.
Correction 56-54 (OT).
-
LC won 80-60.

You can check out a few highlights from the game, including a dunk from Elisha Justice at http://www.wymtnews.com/wymtsports. It is the Mar. 4th - 11 pm... 04:00 video...
-
Elisha Justice led the way with 21 and Ashley Hatfield had 14. Shelby Valley moves on to face Johnson Central.
-
I don't mean to be gay or anything and talk about the Bachelor, but that finale ticked me off about as bad as losing a basketball game. It was TOTALLY fake, even more fake than normal. That show is digging it own grave with each passing "season". Jason has just let Brad (the bachelor who picked nobody) off the hook...

Shelby Valley
Boys 27-4
Girls 19-8
46-12 total
-
So when will those 2 teams know?
Pike County Central defeated Sheldon Clark in the play-in game to move on to the region. They will face Prestonsburg.
-
Why is there an play-in game?
Because the 15th only has three districts this year and we have a really strange format...
-
I dont know much about the 15th except for Shelby Valley; is there anyone who has a good shot at beating them?
Most would consider Johnson Central the biggest threat to SV. The two teams haven't faced each other this season so it's hard to say.
-
Not sure of the times yet, but it starts on Wednesday:
Belfry vs. Johson Central
Shelby Valley vs. Betsy Layne
Lawrence County vs. Phelps
Prestonsburg vs. Sheldon Clark/Pike County Central play-in winner

I have realized that all along, not sure others have. Plus they only have one in state loss and I believe he was hurt against Knott County Central. I love my Lions, but I also really like this bunch at the Valley and especially Justice who I think is one of the best guards in the state. There are a lot of good guards, but he ranks right with the best of the best. Kid is Super!!!!
The teams from Elliott and SV are ones that coaches dream of. Both of these teams are so fun to watch and are so fundamentally sound.
-
The Valley has now won 20 in a row I believe. This is most certainly a Top 5 team and I see an Elliott-Valley downright war coming on Friday night March 20th in Rupp. Valley is very good, but they won't see the same Elliott they saw in Richmond if they meet again.
Congrads to Shelby Valley on an outstanding season by an outstanding team.
Regarding the 20 wins in a row, if Elisha hadn't gotten hurt, Valley would more than likely be 30-1 on the season. All 4 losses came at the time he was hurt.

Valley has never won a game at the state tournament so we'd better concentrate on getting that 1st win (assuming we make it out of region). Would love to see the rematch though. It would be a war.

This may sound stupid, but the game wasn't this close... Elisha Justice led the way with 24.

Perry will be a tough out in the 14th...

At this point a win is a win...

I think the Eastern/Corbin winner from the other side of the bracket has as good a shot as anyone...
