  1. Just some food for thought , from an optimist obviously!

    Teams ALWAYS overlook SDSU.

In 2003 against OSU beat SDSU 16-13. OSU finished that year 11-2. SDSU finished 6-6. (OSU had a total of 196 yards offense, 2 turnovers and was 1 for 10 on 3rd downs.)

In 2004 they lost to Michigan 24-21. Michigan finished 9-3 that year. SDSU finished 4-7

In 2005 they lost to OSU 27-6. OSU won the Fiesta Bowl. SDSU finished 5-7

In 2006 they lost to Wisconsin 14-0. in 2006 Wisconsion went 12-1. SDSU finished 3-9

My point is, just because we only won by 8 doesnt mean we are in for a bad year, though it's still very possible. I'm much less optimistic today.

After wading through the negatives, I did find a few positves. Clausens arm is finally healthy and he answered the strength and velocity questions. Both INT's were receivers faults, and one should have been a TD. Next time, please turn your head back when you see the DB looking to catch a ball!!They're still very young, with over 75% of the two deep being true FR and true SO.

The coaching leaves a lot to be desired. CW didn't call any plays in this game, but it didn't look much different from last year, other than receivers did catch some balls.

    Line play - No comment

  2. I'm not sure why you are so defensive. I am merely expressing my opinion about the differences in Louisville and NKY (not Cincinnati) volleyball. I have nothing to lose or gain by this conversation but you might. Notre Dame does not live up to its potential because there is no comprehensive program in place for player development. My comment about St. Henry was not intended to compare numbers of championships. I was pointing out that St. Henry's coach gets the most out of her players making them the best they can be as did Matt Long at Beechwood. NDA should be dominant in the state with the talent they have but they don't develop it to its full potential. So...turn a blind eye and keep hoping and I won't give my opinion anymore.

I think everyone is defensive because you come out of the gate talking smack. I even agree with you for the most part, but I'm not thrilled with your delivery of the message.

Having said that, Mercy was very motivated for this game because it was te game before the BIG ONE - Assumption on Tuesday night. They were pumped.

Mercy does have the advantage of having most of their starters play club ball on the same team, which is very successful as well. They play virtually year round together. Is that the same with the Pandas?

Most clubs in Louisville have a smattering of many schools on their teams, with a focus maybe on one particular school. KIVA is Assumption, MAVA is Mercy, etc. Not sure how many Assumtion girls played together. My daughter was with KIVA, until she quit growing!!!

  3. As a fan, I hope this was just first game jitters. This was not the game I was expecting.

Honestly, I think the SDSU QB will be better than the one Michigan puts on the field next week, so that could be another ugly game that I see as a tossup at this point. ND vs UM, uhh, two very mediocre teams at this point.

  4. For those of you who are saying this is NOT a moral victory, I have a question.

What is a moral victory? In your own words, can you give your opinion of the definition of a moral victory?

I just don't believe they exist. I had a coach tell me years ago that moral victories only exist to make losers feel better about themselves, and I concur. The word victory implies you scored more points than your opponent.

  5. I cannot beleive you consider this, I suggest you watch the interview with the magazines editor when he gets dealt on LIVE TV because of his inaccurate headline. BABIES, LIES and SCANDALS. He admitted there were no lies and no scandals and basically put his tail between his legs when the pretty young lady interviewed him and called him out on MSNBC.

Impossible. MSNBC is part of the "left wing conspiracy".

  6. I do not claim to be an impartial journalist and I have been as critical of John McCain as anybody who posts in this forum. I take it from your response that you have no idea what Matthews' undergraduate major was. I read several bios and none of them mentioned Matthews' major. Olbermann was a communications major.

As someone who was once a journalism major, I can promise you that you do not need a degree in that field to be a journalist. Clearly, you have some bias towards Mathews, and it maks you feel better saying he is not a journalist. So, you're losing credibilty in your arguments. It's kinda arrogant to think a degree is required to be recognized in your field. It's demeaning to those who don't have degrees.

What do you call someone who drops out of college, or high school, then goes on to become a millionaire in the business world? Wouldn't you call him a business man? Even without a degree? I know a pilot who has no official training. What do I call him?

  7. Please tell me how someone who is smaller that 6' tall standing in front of you can block the view of a ball soaring through the air. Lyons didn't get touched, the ball didn't get touched, he just flat out dropped it and it was a bad call. Just because Lyons messed up doesn't mean he was interfered with.

I'd say the angle of the ball coming in has something to do with it, and Dicky Lyon's ain't exactly taller than the defender. Lyons is reaching out to get the ball, so as not to hit the defender. Next time, Dicky needs to just cream the defender so he can get to the ball in his bread basket, then there won't be any questions about interference.

As far as Petrino, there weren't problems under his watch because he swept them under the rug. He took Vaughn from ND even though they kicked him off the team for a major infraction. He was not just a transfer as stated on air yesterday. Seldom do you see players kicked off teams for major violations get picked up by another D1 school. So I wasn't exactly shocked to see him spending his weekends shooting innocent families with paintballs. :creepy:

  8. Still trying to recover from yesterday...that is the hottest game I have ever been to and one of the hottest I have been in my life...I got so hot in the 2nd quarter that I had to go find some shade...While sitting in the shade I saw a fan being hauled out on a stretcher about every 5 minutes it seemed.

That's why they call it "The Oven"! :fire:

Seriously though, I only watch T vs X games there, and those are always later, so I never knew it was an issue. But nearly every fan that was there was saying the same thing. The news said 100 people at the game were treated for heat related issues. They showed a thermometer sitting on the field that registered 120 degrees, which was as high as it went. It could have been more. :fire:

  9. So you guys understand about Ty, here are a few links. Those who say he never got a chance really don't know him, and how he is a cancer. As a former "huge supporter" of Ty, I do understand. You have not sat through his press conferences where he blames the players ONLY. He NEVER took any credit for failures, which is a huge reason recruits quit coming. They've said as much. Apparently he did it again this weekend, blaming Jake Locker, who is a freaking stud, in their embarrassing loss this weekend.

Check out the Settle Times forums. Do you notice a trend with these topics?

Every coach has one of these I suppose

    http://www.firetw.com/

Apathy. After 1st beatdown of the season, their Rivals board had only 6 (SIX!!!) post yesterday. They've given up.

    http://washington.rivals.com/forum.asp?sid=881&fid=2346

Or, maybe they're all here on the Scout.com board

    http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=147&f=1361

I only point his current situation because this is exactly how it played out at ND. Most folks only saw the headline "ND is Racist" and chose to buy into it: hook, line and sinker. Which is the reason I defend them so vehemently.

Never mind those same racist were the only college I know of that fought the KKK and kicked them out of town, unlike my alma mata (UofL) who lets them speak on campus and gives them police protection.

  10.

UK fans: Still think it's a good idea to bury this game in week three? I would think today's game would do wonders for recruiting, especially defensive players.

Actually, I do. Perusing all the non UK-UofL boards after the game, everyone thought the game was a snoozer with two pathetic offenses. Were they wrong? I only enjoyed it cuz I pull for the Cats.

But if both teams had a couple games under their belts, maybe they wouldn't have embarrassed themselves across the country.

  11. Saw replay, bad call on Lyons fumble. The Player stopped and there was room for Lyons to catch the ball. There is no Halo rule. I drink Ice tea/Milk.

If you think it was a good call you are entitled just as I am. Y'all keep watching and you will see punt returners calling for fair catches.

This call was made the same way several times over the weekend, so maybe it's a point of emphasis as they like to call it.

Dicky doesn't stop short on those plays, unless he has a reason too. Afterall, he's the son of a St X player, amd they don't do stuff like that. The ball was an inch or two from the helmet, probably looked like it would hit. I say to Dicky, next time just keep running and make it a no doubter.

  12. I think 5 sophomores played in this game. Defense was flying around the entire game, QB play was much improved from last season. I really liked the intensity this team played with!

That's a lot for this early in the year. Five is about all that play normally, do you think there will be more, or are these the chosen few?

Hey Park, thanks for the reply to my questions above! I didn't get a chance to go Friday night.

  13. That doesn't make much sense.

I think he was joking on the "3rd string" part. But Deuce hasn't practiced very much this entire off season, so they had to get him a few carries. Not sure why they weren't in the 1st half, but maybe he was rewarding the guys that started because they have played well in practice. Wish the game were closer so he could have played more. He had a nice first play though - 41 yards!

  14. I find it interesting on much emphasis ND fans put on recruiting.

There are plenty of schools out there who are not nearly as successful as Notre Dame but win more games. How can that be, when ND has so many top recruits?

Oh, that's right, gametime is ranking them. :D

Since we sucked on the field last season, we take our battles where we can. :thumb:

But honestly, recruiting is the life blood of CFB. Yeah, every once in a while a team pops up for a few years with lower recruits, because they were evaluated better by that staff than the gurus. Louisvile is a prime example with Petrino here. But to stay at the top, you have to consistenly bring in solid classes, otherwise you will fade into oblivion. ND and Louisville are fine examples again. It doesn't guarantee success, otherwise USC would never lose a game, but it certaily helps.

With the dumbed down schedule, ND should win 8, but I hope to see them go back to play the schedules of past. I'd rather never win a NC and play the toughest schedule, though I'm sure i'm in the minority. I wish all of CFB would so the same. In '88, we played 3 of the top 4 teams (ND being the other) and won all games easily for the most part. That was with somewhat relaxed academic standards though, so we'll see if it can be done with rigid standards.

  15. And explain to me again how OTS is brought into this?:confused:

Because Cats fans, which I am one, can see it one way for their team when it comes to Tubby. Then, they see it completely the opposite for ND when it comes to Ty, when in reality, the situations are very similar. You being a Cat fan like myself, I was just putting into terms you'd appreciate.
