  1. I honestly wanted Tubby to stay, but once we got Billy G I realize that I had been lulled into submission over the past few years. Just like I wanted Ty to stay at ND football, until he left and there was so much more energy. I guess I just fear change.

To answer the question though, I never think about these things until the deal is done. More often that not, it's a lot of wasted effort, and usually negative. I'm VERY glas we got Billy G.

  2. Hardy says she will play, but folks say she still limps quite a bit at school, which doesn't bode well. She's also played with a bad rotator cuff all season that needs surgery most likely.

I predicted Mercy from day one knowing what they had coming back and what Assumption didn't. But Sacred heart got a little better than I expected late, and after seeing the brackets, it cleary favors SH. Mercy has to get by the top ranked teams (#3 and #4) on Saturday just to play SH (#2), who has a much easier schedule. I know these girls are used to playing 3 or more games a day, but it has to help SH knowing they can play backups more. Plus it will hurt losing a leader like Hardy, or playing her injured. Even though her freshman replacement has been fantastic, she is still a frosh in the State tourney for the first time.

Mercy however IS NOT overlooking the first games, they know they are very formidable opponents who can easily beat them.

  3. ND is doing something similar. They basically saw a kid kicking for his interhall (intramural) team and asked him to try out. He performed well. ND's intramural is a lot different from most though. Most of those players had college FB offers, including D1 to play elsewhere, but chose to attend ND without playing FB. Also, their intramural is the only full contact tackle in full pads and helmets in the country.

  4. X may not need to throw another pass this year, true, but my point is just maybe they will, and if they don't practice it another Best Team Ever will go home ringless. I don't buy the conditions excuse... look at the other box scores.

I know teams have won championships without passing the ball, so not sure why this is a big deal all the sudden.

X really didn't pass much against Trinity and had a decent game, though certainly not their best. I still favor Trinity in the matchup down the road because they always win that game and should be the favorite. I assume they sandbagged in the first meeting.

  5. This has been going on for years in the NKY Parochial schools . I imagine it is the same in the Louisville Parochial Schools .

Yes it is. My daughter started at age 3, playing with 4 and 5 year olds at OVVC on a mostly parochial kindergarten team. These kids were overhand serving and spiking by 3rd grade. We started as public, but switched to catholic early on - NOT for sports.

My kid used to get a lot of love from Kordes and other coaches, until she quit growing. I miss volleyball a LOT, but she didn't have a chance at either Mercy or Assumption at 5' nuthin and 80 pounds.

I will confirm one thing. It was all parochial school kids there, even at an early age whe anyone could just show up and be put on a team. I don't recall more than a handfull of public kids there, though I think more play club ball these days. My kid's 8th grade class had 16 girls, and 15 played volleyball. The other was a state champion gymnist.

  6. I'm gonna go WAY out on a limb here and say Sacred Heart vs. Mercy in the Final.

If it goes chalk, you may be right. IF it happens that way, it will be a closer game than the rest this season. Mercy has won all four matches against SHA season, tough to beat someone 5 times. It will pair two brothers coaching against each other for the 1st time for the title, IF it happens that way.

Mercy lost one of it's best players last week (hopefully temporarily) in Madison Hardy, but Freshman Lauren Schneidtmiller has stepped in with two remarkable games in her absence.

  7. Trinity's starting QB completed 14 of 15 passes. The OL is still banged up. PRP appeared to be a physical team. I think good things are in store for them..BTW, how is the Newman kid from PRP doing at Notre Dame this year?

Fottball wise, he's going to redshirt this season, mainly for technique reasons. He's one of 6 true freshman that have not played this year.

He is loving school up there. I saw him several times when I took my daughter for a visit this past summer. We were sitting at the next table in the cafeteria (not by coincidence) with Brandon and his teammates. He was having a blast at lunch that day. He was always smiling every time I saw him that week. Other students have said he's soaking up the ND experience, which was a big reason he went there anyway, not just for football.

  8. It seems that the only posters interested in volleyball are fans in the 9th and 10th regions in Northern Kentucky . Where is everyone else ? Where are the Louisville and Lexington fans ? Where are the fans of mountain volleyball ? The Bowling Green area fans ? Fans from the far west ?:flame:Where are you ?

We're a Mercy family, and I wondered the same thing. Maybe cathloic school folks are tired of causing a public vs private debate on every thread we enter. I know it crosses my mind before I post.

  9. It will depend on which Assumption team shows up for the game. If it is the Assumption team that played in the Nike Tournament this past weekend in Chicago then it will be a very short trip for Notre Dame; however, if it is the Assumption team that played at Mercy on Tuesday you could leave town with a win.

I think Mercy had a little something to do with that performance too. It wasn't a fluke, and it was the 2nd time they beat them this year. And Mercy started off really bad I thought, certainly not their best possible performance. They did that in Florida.

  10. Sounds like he was talking about X. You talking about the movie Rudy? The speech most often used is the Coach Dan Devine line: "Gentlemen, this is our house. Nobody, and I MEAN Nobody, comes into our house and pushes us around."

I forgot that one. I was thinking about early in the movie when he's younger and showing his friend a Rockne pre-game speech that he's memorized. A lot of action and fast talking, that's the one I envisioned.

  11. "7) There were many memorable moments on the three-day trip, but witnessing the pep-rally rants of a cross-country kid (doing the most entertaining Knute Rockne speech we’ve ever seen) and football grunt John Taylor (who later blocked an extra point) were jewels only captured in high school sports. We feel fortunate to capture such a ripe and unbridled age. (See video of the rants next week)."

Does anyone know what school did the Rockne speech? And what it the one Rudy does in the movie?

  12. It's not really on your list, but I usually buy most of my stuff at a consignment store. I'm not too picky about clothes. I buy a suit about every 2nd or 3rd funeral. I do buy new stuff maybe before a vacation, but I don't have many of those either.

  13. I think Florida and Cali are strong, but don't know how many they have. Cali has historically been one of the strongest areas.

Assumpton just did very well in a Cali tourney, but lost to #1 team in the US while beating everyone else.

Mercy just won the Berkeley tourney in Florida, absolutely pounding the US #2 team from Plant. I don't think they scored more than 15 points in any match.

  14. I pull for ND anyway, but have a strong dislike for Butch Davis after he threw Tim Couch under the bus in Cleveland. Can't pull for him.

This game is a tossup. NC barely beat McNeese St, ND barely beat S.D. State. NC rushing attack is ranked 90th, ehhh. ND run game is okay at times, non existant at other times. ND has the clear advantage at QB and WR. NC has very good special teams, and has won a few games with them.

I think ND would be fine, except for the fact they will need FG's to pull this out easily. Their kicking game is horrible, with a kicker worse than Lones Seiber at 1 of 7 this season. That is why this is a close game. Advantage ND.
