  1. Thought we discussed on here last year it was a random draw, not seeded? Or am I thinking of one other than the 34th?
  2. I agree with if they are good enough to play and the rules allow it to happen legally, then the Varsity should be represented by the best of the best! I will say that having 13/14 year olds mixing it up with 17/18 year olds is an interesting situation. Because even as advanced as today middle school students are, that is quite an age range of maturity (physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally).
  3. Congrats to a good player! What is in the future? Where is she heading after Ludlow?
  4. I wasn't going to get involved in this crossfire, but my two cents worth is this on the whole Ludlow winning by 30+ in a lot of games. If it is true that the JV players are in during the 2nd half or 4th quarter at all, you can't tell them to not play hard. They are trying to earn more minutes and get better. To tell them to play keep away and everyone touches the ball before someone shoots or whatever to me is more offensive to the other team than just playing basketball.
  5. I just read on the KHSAA website that Ludlow is 11-2 (both losses by 3 points each). Looks like Coach Stamm is continuing a good coaching run. Last year Ludlow was Bluegrass Preps NKY hot topic. Where are all the Ludlow faithful this year? Are they ready to compete with the bigger schools? How about the All A? Anyone from Ludlow out there?
  6. Never heard this rule. I can name 5 NKY teams that do it regularly
  7. But if this wins, don't you think the precedent set will change the landscape of girls practicing with boys? As a coach, makes me think twice about it!
  8. An interesting article in regards to an Ohio girl who is suing her coach/school for being hurt in a scrimmage against boys/men. Here's a link to the story in the Enquirer. http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2008301010011 Thoughts? IMO this could open up a big can of worms, because a lot of girls programs practice against males! (right or wrong)
  9. Where did you see her? In the stands? On the bench? On the floor? Somewhere on here I read she had to sit 27 days for the 27 days she missed or something like that. Again, if she went to Ohio, I am sure she would lose some eligibility as mentioned several times on this thread. Back to the quarter limit, did she last year ever play more than just Varsity minutes?
  10. I don't know, I am just trying to go through what I remember hearing. I don't work for OHSAA and could care less about Mayo/Walker. I also remember Mayo transfered back somewhere away from North College Hill his "senior" year because he wasn't going to be able to play in Ohio. I do know that when there are transfers from KY and they played Varsity as a 7th or 8th grader, they do lose eligibility, or can lose eligibility. I am sure it is case by case. I am sure if you google the Mayo/Walker thing it will show up something.
  11. Yes, since he played high school ball in one state, it took away one year in Ohio when he transfered to Ohio and couldn't play high school. It is why as a "Senior" he graduated early and begin at Kansas State and begin playing right away.
  12. If they are good enough to play up and the rules allow it, great. However, then let them play up. Not like it was asked if they should play in a tripleheader all 12 quarters. If a FROSH is good enough to play varsity and get minutes on the varsity team, then they shouldn't be playing that much in a night.
  13. I am not. That is too much. If they are that small on numbers, cancel the freshmen team! Because more than likely it isn't a one time thing, and then that just is too much wear and tear on a body that would lead to fatigue and possible injury.
  14. I wouldn't say embarrassing, just different. I was just recently exposed to NKY basketball, and as a newbie, I just had to adjust to the differences. Ohio does look across the boarder and think "wow". But it's also because they don't know all the facts either. The stereotype is that KY teams practice all year long, and all play middle schoolers on Varsity. And that isn't all true.
  15. Only 20 regular season contests PERIOD. There isn't any, 4 can count for 2 if it is a classic or tournament and such. 20 is 20 in Ohio. Along with the no contact period's of 30 days from the State Championship games. A coaching staff can only coach/instruct 10 days from a time set up in June through August. Open Gyms can be held, but the coaching staff can do nothing but roll the balls out. A lot of differences! And someone on this thread earlier was talking about size of schools, you have to remember Ohio has 4 divisions for girls basketball, so in theory the DIV's (small schools) are playing against other schools and not playing the bigs like they do in KY.
  16. They had to file for some kind of waiver, and even then they ended up having to forfeit games. That was why Bill Walker (another player who came with Mayo at North College Hill) left early to go to Kansas State during his Senior year.
  17. Good stuff! I agree with you 100%. On Moss, she did play varsity as a 7th grader at Heritage. So since she played last year, she is entering year 3? Just hasn't played yet this year in a contest right?
  18. I can only speak of my first hand knowledge from Ohio, but you field teams that aren't competitive most of the time to have numbers. Freshmen teams are becoming rarer and rarer. Kids play both JV and Varsity to fit rosters. With Ohio's 4 year rule, middle school kids can be pulled up, but they only get 4 years eligibility. So why waste their middle school years? Also, because Ohio has the 4 year rule, I think it is funny how people still say the Moss girl is going to transfer to Lakota West in Ohio. She is currently playing her 4th year of Varsity in KY? She wouldn't be allowed to see the floor in OH due to her 4 years being up.
  19. OH, and IN don't allow middle schoolers to play up. I don't know about the others.
  20. Solid win right? Coach Wright's teams are usually pretty good!
  21. This is going to come out wrong and I don't mean it that way, but what has made them solid since last year? They weren't solid last year! Coach left right? Player nucleus stayed together? Transfers? Kids playing that were walking the halls? Thanks!
  22. I was hoping and praying someone wouldn't post this game. Beating PM who has about 200 kids in the school and is now 1-24 in their last 25 games is hardly anything to get excited about. BC's JV team would have been a more formidable foe!
  23. Yeah, that's what I figured. I know most of them anyway, and while they don't deny it, they won't confirm it either. It is what it is! LW needs her if they want to stay towards the top. Glad she is still at Ryle with her teammates!
  24. Thanks! I am tired of hearing in Ohio how she will be at Lakota West by Christmas break. And then not this season, but for summer and next season and such. My guess is just wishful thinking! Thanks again for the clarification!
