More tragic news hit the Holy Cross family this past weekend (early Sunday morning). 2025 graduate Chance Martin was killed in a hit-and-run incident in Lexington. He was a member of the football team. "If you knew Chance, you knew he was one of the kindest, gentlest souls. The kind of person who made the world a little better just by being in it," the Holy Cross High School football team shared in a statement. I attended the prayer service Monday afternoon at Holy Cross Church in Latonia. HOLY CROSS PULLS AWAY EARLY, CRUISES TO 42-12 WIN OVER HOLMES AT TOM ELLIS STADIUM Holy Cross made the short trip to Covington's Tom Ellis Stadium on September 11 and delivered a solid performance, defeating the Holmes Bulldogs 42-12. The Indians controlled the game from the late first quarter onward, pairing explosive passing plays with steady rushing and a defense that repeatedly disrupted Holmes' rhythm. A FAST START FROM HOLMES - AND AN EVEN FASTER RESPONSE FROM HOLY CROSSHolmes struck first. After a methodical drive aided by two Holy Cross penalties, Michael Chames powered in from four yards out to give the Bulldogs a 6-0 lead. The momentum didn't last long. On the ensuing possession, Holy Cross quarterback Brian Ferguson found Xavier Thornberry streaking down the sideline for a 43-yard touchdown, tying the game just 90 seconds after Holmes scored. Ferguson and Thornberry connected again minutes later - this time from six yards - pushing Holy Cross ahead 14-6 and flipping control of the game.
