mhighfield Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 This was the Championship game of the consolation bracket at the 5/3,Ballard came out early and led by 20 at halftime But Mason decided to play in the 2nd half and it become a tight game. Mason got the lead down to 2 with a minute left and Ballard went back up by 3, But Mason got the rebound and had a chance to come down and tie it with 30 seconds left and turned it over and that was the ball game.Im proud of this team they way they battled back hard after being blowed out in the 1st half but we just have to start putting 2 halfs together,If they would have here they win easy. You cant spot a top 15 team like Ballard 20 at the half and win very often,Again its what ive preched all year YOUTH.We just have to grow up and play defense the whole game. This was the Royals 8th game in 11 days and there 9th straight game on the road.Good news is these Royals only have 4 road games left all season long and that would include the Districts and Region,So that will be nice anyways.Guys lets focus from here on in as we start region play and make your march to Rupp starting next Wed in the M.C.I.T.
kyhoops#23 Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 Bracken will be a nice visitor for the Royals at the MCIT after the past 2 weeks of opponents.
mcpapa Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 Mason County showed both their talent as well as their youth and inexperience in the two holiday tourneys. Looked like world-beaters for 21 minutes against South Laurel, then couldn't hang on. Looked pathetic (there's no other word for it) against Pulaski-SW in the first game at Lexington Catholic - completely outplayed by a less talented but more determined team. It's a good thing for Mason County that most of their remaining games are at home - because Scott County, Lexington Catholic and South Laurel are still on the schedule, as well as Pendleton County and the rest of the 10th region. One thing about the Royals - they will play anybody anywhere. And you're right on target when you say they need to put two halves of basketball together. They might be able to get away with one half against Bracken County next week (maybe not); but certainly not when they play the stronger 10th region teams.

We have to remember there will be some growing pains as we have saw when you have such a young group of kids. But you summed it up perfect,I believe the Royals will get some rest this week finally and put together a good showing next week in the MCIT.

They wont take anybody lightly i dont believe,But yes compared to the teams they played over the last 2 weeks and they showed they hang in there with anyone this should be a lighter task against the Polar Bears.
ChiefSmoke Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 With the holidays, I have missed alot of games, but I really enjoyed the Manual game because of the effort. Our team has improved substantially already. It is fun to watch them play because of how hard they go after it. My father in law got up early to watch them today and was real impressed with the way they faught back against Ballard. This will be a fun team to watch and follow the rest of the season. Good luck to Coach O'Hearn and the Royals! Also, congrats to Mikah Turner for being named 3rd team alll state in football.
Pentastar Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 How was this the championship of the Consolation Bracket? There were four Consolation Brackets on the Tournament Schedule and the semi-finals have yet to be played Today. I thought each Team was to play at least two games? What Brackets did Leslie County & Covington Catholic win?

They never played well and mostly sleepwalked in the first half of each of the 5th/3 games. Maybe the coaches need to convince the players when the game starts it is really the second half!!! These Royals are a fiesty, scappy bunch when they play. A little thinking in supplement the hard play would not hurt. They also need to talk and play defense better and they need to understand you can TALK to your teammates, especially on defense I dont think they attacked the basket as much as they could with the talent the Royals have. These are a great bunch of youngsters that I thoroughly enjoyed watching for four days in Lexington. I havent been able to watch them much as mostly listen on the internet. Danny Waddle does a great job but watching in person is better. The 10th Region better be ready for these Royals. It was a good show Royals. Get some rest and have a Happy New Year. Go Royals!!!

westsider Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 There are two consolation brackets ... one for the teams that lose in the first round and another for the two teams that lose in the round of 16.
