What's your interest level with KY HS wrestling?

2002 when a friend of mine was honored.
Too long my friend, you need to try and make another one soon. I'm honestly not sure when the next good tournament is up there but I know State Duals, Regions, and State are just all around the corner. I'm sure the NKY Region tournament has some exceptional wrestling.

Regionals is on the same weekend I'm going to run a half-marathon or I was seriously considering going to either NKY or the multiple regions they have out at Hoops here in Louisville. My alma mater will walk-through their regions.

I hope it picks up on here more. Former....what is your alma mater? Also, one of the best tournaments in teh State is this weekend at South Oldham...the Dragon. Many of the top teams will be there including Trinty, Ryle, Simon Kenton, and Oldham County.

Haven't seen you post in a long time 5star. Glad to have you back. I went to LaRue County.

Due to other plans in the beginning of the year and them wrestling out of state I haven't caught LC yet this year so I'll be going to the North Hardin tournament on Saturday.

I bet the Dragon will be awesome though. You going?

The sport is growing every year. 13 years ago when I started coaching in District 1, which is now Region 1 had 6 teams. It now has 14 teams. This is a direct result of the growth of middle school and elementary programs. The high school teams are seeing an increase as direct result of the middle school programs. In 2000 there were 70 high school teams wrestling in Kentucky, last year there were 92. In 2000 13 teams competed in the middle school state championships, last year there were 61 teams. Interest is on the rise. Now we just need it to move into those last areas of the state that are wrestling free, i.e. Bowling Green.

Another old wrestling face. Glad to hear from you again and those are some awesome stats. I'd say soon there will be over 100 teams wrestling in the state.
Not sure of the relation but SK still has at least one Cooper left. They are kind of like the Ervins at Union County with most people wondering when they will ever run out. Kevin Cooper is a junior currently ranked 1st. So far this is how he has done at state:

7th Grade - Qualifier

8th Grade - 3rd Place

9th Grade - 2nd Place

10th Grade - State Champion

11th Grade - ???

12th Grade - ???

Yes Kevin is the youngest brother of Craig, Brad and Neil Cooper. They always said they thought he could be the best of them all. All of them have a state championship, it's like a rite of passage for them. Brad was also a good cross country runner and Craig was one of SK's all time tackling leaders as well. They all were very motivated athletes that had no quit in them.

There is a Cooper wrestling for Summit View, Colton, who is very good. Is he part of the SK Cooper clan??

I was at the Dragon and it was very tough. Saint Xavier won it. TJ Ruschell looks very dominant.

This is my first post on here but I think Wrestling has grown tremendously over the past few years. This year alone we added three new teams in Madison Southern, Spencer County, and Louisville Male. I only see it continuing to get bigger as long as schools that are struggling do not fold.

Coach McCoy its a pleasure to have you on BGP. Thanks for all you do for KY wrestling.

Thank you for the welcome and support. I am looking to getting some things going in the Louisville Area. I am new to this area so I'm trying to learn the ropes. Louisville is a great city but a little different than Lexington.
