Ugly but not totally unexpected . The 10-point loss to Prestonwood told me this was going to be ugly.

 

A friend called me to ask what I meant by this because it was a big vague.

 

Prestonwood is #12 in the country in MaxPreps. Loaded with talent. One of the top freshmen in the country and their upperclassmen has some D1s including a JR big man UK is recruiting and I think they have a kid going to Kansas.

 

Scott County played them in a Christmas tourney and only lost by 10.

 

Ergo, this was going to be ugly from the start.

The 2 point loss to Holmes really hurt this team. But lots of time to right the ship before the District tournament.

Wow. Tough night for CCH. Didn't expect such a large margin.

I didn't look at the stats, but was at the game. Scott County dominated the glass, gave CovCath lots of problems with their pressure and were simply the better team. First time I have seen CovCath so I can't comment on them (although they seemed like a team that would give less athletic teams trouble), but Scott County really picking their game as of late. Will be interesting to see Scott County vs. Woodford-Dixie winner tomorrow.

Actually, they really don't. Center is about 6-2 maybe, then you have Tamron Manning (listed at 6-5, but probably 6-3). Scott County just more athletic and aggressive. They were taller at every position, but just didn't tower over CovCath.

I'll buy taller at every position and more athletic, but I am not buying more aggressive. It may have just looked that way because of the more athletic part.

More aggressive rebounding in terms of going after the ball on the offensive glass. CovCath didn't do their due diligence of blocking out. But, overall, for a first impression, I liked the way CovCath played. The point guard, #22, (despite the pressure) never got flustered. I thought their big kid, #34, should have gotten some more touches, but Scott County's pressure kept that from happening. The game got away from CovCath in the third quarter.

 

And, I just looked at the stats and between second chance points and points off turnovers, it was 33-8 Scott County. There's your difference in the game.
