January 12, 201214 yr Bud Selig's long goodbye to baseball What's your thoughts on Selig and the job he's done? I have mixed opinions about him.
January 12, 201214 yr Author I was stunned to hear he makes about $22M per year. $20m according to Bryant's article, but who's counting at that level? I guess there has to be some kind of incentive to abandon ownership. That, or the owners want to make sure he knows whose side he's obligated to.
January 12, 201214 yr Author Who in the baseball world do you guys feel would be his best replacement? Somebody not beholden to the owners, but we know that's not gonna happen.
January 12, 201214 yr There is a lot not to like Selig for. But he deserves a lot of credit for the following: ...and he's now negotiated a third consecutive labor contract with the players' association without a strike or lockout while watching the NFL and the NBA be immolated by work stoppages.
January 12, 201214 yr I had always thought that Joe Torre was next in line, specifically when he took a job with the comissioners office. At least in the short term future if Bud was to step down. Now Im not sure who would be the best fit 3-5 years from now.
January 12, 201214 yr Author Y'know, I wouldn't mind George Will. I think he presents an interesting balance as an economic conservative who would appeal to owners while also being a diehard fan and student of the game who would be able to look at the big picture.

Now Im not sure who would be the best fit 3-5 years from now. Torre just resigned from the MLB gig. He's part of a group trying to buy the Dodgers.

January 12, 201214 yr George Bush....Joking, well only sort of.......he's not doing anything right now.
January 12, 201214 yr I'm not a fan of Selig. I think he lead Pete Rose along for years, whom I don't find as innocent. But, when Selig told him to own up to what he had done and he'd let him back in then changed his mind, that forever changed my opinion of him.
January 12, 201214 yr Torre just resigned from the MLB gig. He's part of a group trying to buy the Dodgers. Correct, IMO its part of the reason Torre is trying to become an Owner now. Has the interworkings of commisoners office now, own a team a few years, buyout ownership, become Commissioner.
