In the past years of the program, there have been small amounts of time when support was there, in a way. However, it never stayed, because people are too busy fighting among themselves and the administration thinks its a basketball school, even though they have not won a Regional title in 26 years. Right now, I don't think you could bring Bear Bryant back from the grave and make a dent at Betsy Layne! Best thing that could happen here is for all the parents to get together, meet with the Superintendent, demand the resignation of the principal, get a new administrator who is supportive for all sports and will be fair, then recruit a good coach. No one is going to come there the way things are right now!

 

Great Post....However, I have seen similar situations at other schools throughout the region and like I said before, I believe that the football program can be turned in the right direction. I don't know anything about the administration and I don't care.

 

IMHO, It doesn't take something as drastic as dragging the current administration out of their jobs and totally retooling the entire school from top to bottom to have a football program...some people believe that and that is a big drastic move that would take too much time, effort and quite frankly more political power than those of us that actually care- have....to be honest, this is probably why nothing is ever done about situations like this because people think they have to create enemies and "overthrow the current regime" and do all of these impossible things in order to be successful.

 

"The right people" simply need to be convinced that all of the young men and women at Betsy Layne High School deserve the same kind of support that is being given to Basketball- for example. It would be best not to "demand" these things but rather convince the people at the top the positive benefits that would be reaped from their initial investment of money and hiring the right coaches....maybe they simply just don't understand what a positive impact that a successful football program can have on the school and community.

 

On the other hand if you have administration that you KNOW doesn't care then forget everything I said and go to your plan to get rid of them all!!

 

Whatever does happen and whoever is the coach at Betsy Layne I wish them luck, the kids deserve the best!

I am perfectly content with my present assignment, and to be honest with you, I just thank the good Lord that my living doesn't consist of making coffee, being a gopher, and kissing rear end, which some people that post here must do! Keep up the good work!!! LOL

PAT MAN, as I said earlier, I am very pleased with my current assignment! I am just thankfull to the Good Lord I do not have to make coffee, be a gopher, and kiss rear end for my living. I am terribly sorry for those who do on here! Problem is, some don't know when to stop! :lol:

That school is just like shelby valley over here in Pike co. The powers that be DO NOT WANT football outshining the roundball and it will never change.

Thats why the Honaker twins arent going there right now (But I aint complaining LOL)

Betsy Layne should have kept Jackie Bush around, Jackie was the right coach for this team. He cared about the school and the football program and worked really hard but BL gave him one year and expected him to make them perfect or something, but it dont work like that, building programs like Betsy Layne takes alot of hard work and alot of TIME. In my opinion BL missed out on the best thing for the program. I know a lot of players that left the team when Jackie did.

Betsy Layne will be out of districe one more year and then they shall be in a district. The district will hopefully be single A and I think playing a single A district, they may be able to compete with some teams. Is there anymore talk of coaches besides Bubba and stevens.
