Holmes gets a nice opening round win over the 7th Region favorites.

Dawgs led by as much as 22 in the second half...

Rice and Henderson led the Dawgs in scoring.

Would like to know how the Antiqwan Beckham and Duran Jefferson matchup turned out. Beckham is thought to be one of the top junior point guards in the state.

Holmes gets Henderson County in round two tomorrow at 6pm.

Would like to know how the Antiqwan Beckham and Duran Jefferson matchup turned out.

Duran only got his pocket picked a few times. Not bad for the helter skelter game that it was. Holmes scored 48 in the first half. Duran ran the floor well. He was able to penetrate and dish when he wanted to, but more of the points were scored in transition than in half court sets.

In the fourth quarter Duran had to bring the ball up the court after made baskets against double teams. He handled all of those with the poise you expect from him.

Note: there were four or more situations where the Holmes players might have lost their composure last year, but they simply played through it today. They played confident and mature, maintaining a nice lead all the way.

Henderson and Hill played very well.

Arrez Henderson has played very consistent all year long...very talented sophomore.

He had two dunks that were impressive, both in baseline traffic. His second one was a bit over-zealous. He had a right to hang on the rim due to congestion under the basket, but he pulled himself up (resulting in his head being well above the rim) drawing the technical.

Holmes was awfully impressive today. Wouldn't be surprised to see them in the finals or at least a possible 9th region semifinal.

Ballard is NOT that good. They have two great guards and a bunch of average players, but they play hard and run and gun.

But still one of the better teams in Louisville and a GREAT win for Holmes. Do you know when they play next? I'd love to see them play.

Holmes is awfully impressive on most days. And given that the team is primarily juniors, they've still got nowhere to go but up.

Primarliy Juniors and sophs. The only Senior of signifigance is BJ Avery and his younger brother/cousin(not sure which he is) can easily fill his role.

Ballard...7th region favorites? Not quite. They might be the 5th best team in the region. I would for sure put J-Town,Male,and Eastern ahead of them and, would probably put Manual above them.
