I'm with Dolamite. In my short lifetime, he is the most deserving heisman we've had. He wasn't voted because of politics. He was voted because he was the best player in football. Is he the greatest player ever? Probably not, but he was the most valuable to ever win. Without him, Baylor would have been a nobody. Take away any of the other finalists from their respected teams, and their teams would've still had just as good of a year or slightly worse. Without him, Baylor doesn't make a bowl game. He's one of the few running qb's that is a quarterback who can run, not a running quarterback. He has a sweet looking pass and will make a great pro. If I has a mid 1st rd pick, I wouldnt hesitate to draft him. He put up amazing numbers, graduated school early, and is an excellent ambassador for the game. I just dont think his team could've won 4 games without him. I'm super happy he won. He may be the most interesting man in college football. Haha.

I just think "most deserving ever" is a poor choice of words. That implies that through the history of the award, no person warranted the consideration that RGIII received. That implies he was far and away the best player relative to that season's award. And that is simply not the case. I would say this year's vote tally even refutes that. If you want to argue he is the best player to ever win the award not thrown in to a high profile situation, then say it like that.

 

Cam Newton was far and away the best player and most deserving of the award last season. Not even close. By definition he was more deserving than RGIII was this season because he dominated his Heisman competition and did so in the SEC.

 

I was good with either he or the Honey Badger winning the award. I would want him on my NFL team going forward.

I agree "most deserving" may not have been my best choice of words to describe what I am trying to say. But in terms of the committee actually getting it right and giving it to a guy who earned it more than anyone I stand by my statement.

So how can you say he earned it more than Cam earned it last season? I hear your argument completely, I really do; but it is also not fair to penalize - within this argument - for how those previous winners performed simply because they were on good teams or high profile. You would expect those players to be on better teams and more high profile because that is where those guys attend school out of their prep career.

 

I think just the fact the committee has been considering more "under the radar" type guys of late for trips to NYC (Suh, Brennan, Ball, Honey Badger, Geirhart, Moore, etc.) shows that people are trying to look outside the normal prism. RGIII reaffirms that.
