Have defenses in Kentucky finally caught up with the 4 wide personell and 2x2 or 3x1 as a formation?

Nothing specil about how to defend it. Just need the personnell.

There was something special about it for a while. Leslie county, Breathitt, Male, Lone Oak all set many records from the early 90's to as recently as 2007. When greg and Tim Couch started slinging it around about 91 they were practically unstoppable. People had no answers for a long time.

I never said they did. My premise is that the formation is having less sucess than in the past and will not be winning one any time soon. By the way Male did. Breathitt did 3 times. L.O. 2 Runner up.

Folks may not be running the Air Raid or Tony Franklin's system as much as in the past, but I imagine that many teams still use spread structures to success in Kentucky. Is this not the case (Ace Formations, Near and Far Formations, Trio, Empty, etc.)?

I think teams are better prepared for the spread now. That doesn't mean a spread team will not win, but it is not a foreign concept anymore. I think it really depends on the area you play in and how many teams spread it out. It also matters what a team does with the spread. You're obviously going to defend a Franklin System team differently than you would Spread Option team.

 

However, I think the game is moving more towards the spread in KY, it is just in disguise. One on one in space is just too tempting.

Defenses are definatly more educated + have gotten better. That being said if you have better atheltes + get them in space then good luck stopping it!
