Jay-Johnson0511-154x300.jpgIf you want to see one of the state’s top seniors, then you might have to wait.

Woodford County’s Jay Johnson is an elite prospect but he suffered a knee injury last spring and is expected to be out until after Christmas.

The Tennessee Tech signee averaged 20 points, 14 rebounds and six blocked shots as a junior and was a standout during the spring for the KYA All-Stars AAU team.

Woodford County will compete in the Mercer County Holiday Classic before Christmas and then the Ashland Invitational Tournament after the holidays.

With Johnson expected back, a few late-season games to watch would be at Madison Central on Jan. 5 and hosting Scott County on Jan. 9.

The Yellowjackets will play in Scott County’s Toyota Classic on Jan. 19-22 ad host 10th Region power Montgomery County on Feb. 14. before ending the season in the Louisville-area with a Feb. 17 game at Collins.

Nice of Demling to call Montgomery Co a "10th region power"

Woodford will be very good. The 2nd year under Hundley's system with the vast majority of players returning... and Johnson being out til Jan will force others to step up their game. When he returns they will be a real contender in the 11th.

I wonder if Hundley will continue to run his offense as if Johnson is playing so that there will not be an adjustment period when he returns or if he has developed a new style offense to adjust to life without Jay????? Has anyone watched thier scrimmages to see whats going on?

Hundley had enough offensive sets last year that didn't involve Johnson as the only option that I doubt he has to change much, just run them more. Johnson was so good last year and such a mismatch, Hundley only had to run basic stuff that involved getting the ball to Johnson.

Does the Christmas return mean he ahead of schedule? I'll be interested in seeing how long it takes him to return to normal when he comes back.
