North comes in with a 9-2 mark; their next win ties the school record for most wins in a year (they went 10-2 in 2008).

Western is 6-5, but a deceptive mark as they have already claims victories over perennial 6A powers Male and Ballard...

Western leads the all-time series, 2-0, but both games came during North's first two years of existence...

 

North Oldham was supposed to be led this year by stud RB Zach Evans, one of the state's top sprinters. But midway through the season, Evans went down with a broken bone (and 510 yards rushing)...but the Mustangs have continued to excel on the ground....

 

Jacob Raymond has already set a new school record for a single season, with 1,245 yards on 134 carries and 13 TDs...his next TD will set the school single-season mark in that category...

 

North is averaging over 333 yards per game rushing, a new school record...

 

Amazingly, the Mustangs rushed for 281 yards per game last year behind a nearly all-sophomore OL. This year, with a veteran (and nearly all-junior) OL, the stakes went up...next year...(?)

 

North's 42-20 win over Valley last week gives the Mustangs an 5-5 playoff mark over their nine football seasons...they are 5-4 over the last five years.

 

North's 61-0 win over Atherton this year and their 69-21 win over Waggener represent the two largest victory margins in Mustang history. All told, 6 of the Mustangs' games this year rank in the top 20 victory margins in school history. The 69 points scored against Waggener represented the most points ever scored by a North Oldham team.

 

Western features speed, speed, speed, speed. North has given up a lot of yards this year, and Western stands to take advantage of that if the Mustangs aren't disciplined. The Warriors are an exciting team that is not afraid to take on anyone - and they've had success against all-comers. On the other hand, North presents a real challenge: their polished and deliberate running game grinds teams into the ground and takes up a lot of time. Possessions become precious. And you can't just concentrate on Raymond. Josh Smith (71-545 yards, 3 TDs), Quinton Shea (59-332, 6), and Jake Evans (Zach's younger brother, who has 402 yards on 48 carries with two scores) complement Raymond well. And only Highlands and Franklin-Simpson have scored more points per game than North, who averages 44 points per contest...

The one game I saw Western this year they were awful, albeit vs. Highlands earlier in the season. I have to think they've improved from that thrashing. Western wins 20-16.

How can everyone be so high on Western when they didn't exactly dominate Waggener?
