"Our Blacks Are So Much Better Than Their Blacks"

Featured Replies

Only because I was stunned by your response.

I totally disagree with PP92 . There is no party that has "better" blacks. That's offensive at every level and it's simply incapable of being proven.

Who has the better Chicanos? Jews? Come on. This is pure ignorance.

The ONLY true thing she said is that it is harder being a black R and a black D.

Why did my response stun you when the same thing was said, just in a different way over an hour earlier? You asked if I thought the Rs were more impressive. I do and I believe that is what Coulter meant by "better". Why would it surprise you that I think Black conservatives are more impressive than black liberals?

Impressive in what way? Wealth? Intelligence?

Or are you simply saying you agree with black conservatives more than black liberals?

75 and I have gotten off on a tangent.

The original point of the thread is the pure ignorance of the wording used plus the asinine "black conservatives face more racism" crap.

I already stated that Coulter nailed the reason. I think it's very impressive to go outside the box of one's family, friends, environment, culture, whatever you want to call it.

And yes, I obviously agree with black conservatives more than black liberals.

That's different than "our blacks are more impressive than their blacks."

Marvel, you're a good young man from all indications on here. I mean that.

However, you're too young to appreciate the impact that words have especially when it comes to "blacks."

Blacks are not owned by any one or any group. Any wording using any hint of ownership even as innocent as this one was is ignorant. While in another thread many assumed I was a black man I am not. However, I'm smart enough to know that if I were a black man I sure as heck do not want some white chick using "our blacks" in ANY CONTEXT.

She is an intelligent person. I can't stand her. I think she is 100% symbolic of the problems we have when it comes to the vitriol in today's politics. She should be smart enough (and she is) to know what words to use.

To your "tit for tat" comment regarding Harry Reid I say "absolutely."

Black men and women still pick out the code words and the intended or unintended slights like Mr Reid gave.

This is pure ignorance and simply inexcusable.

Thank you for the kind words.

I honestly believe, no matter how she would of phrased it, even if it was " The blacks we have on our side are more professional, admirable and more intelligent." -which is what she was saying- it would of been ridiculed to no extent. She wasn't insinuating any type of ownership. She was sticking up for her team. People on the left are going after the messenger and not the message. This thread to me, is very symbolic as to double standards especially with the media in America. I mentioned the Reid comment because I remember people on the left like Whoopi on The View were making excuses for Reid and letting in pass. There is no other reason for this except which letter he has by his name. People, even us here on BGP, criticize way to much on the messenger and not the message itself. To me, that is what small minded people do and I try my hardest not to do so. If a democrat said this, I would be defending him the same way. I know what Coulter meant. As to her last comment, that was dumb. Racism occurs on every side of the aisle. However in the political realm, I think women conservatives, black conservatives and hispanic conservatives are targeted more so than any. Blacks are referred to as Uncle Tom's. Women are digested into every piece all the way down to their hair, clothing and always makes them out to be nutty.

With respect Clyde, I think you being older makes you have a different perspective on the issue. You will automatically think when someone says something like the Coulter comment, that they are meaning it in the worst way. This is because you, like a lot of other older people on here grew up around more harsher circumstances more so than others such as myself. I honestly believe young people- more and more- are not going to look at things such as this in the same light as you. If anyone has seen the south park episode where the town wants to change the flag, you know where I am coming from.

That's different than "our blacks are more impressive than their blacks."

PurplePride said that our blacks were not as impressive. Is he racist?

Take ANY demographic - conservative blacks, liberal blacks, atheist wrestlers - and there will be some members thereof who will be "impressive" (by just about anyone's standard), some that will be whatever the opposite of impressive is, and a bunch that fall somewhere within a standard deviation of the mean. Bell curve stuff.

It's the use of "our and their" - as opposed to "conservative and liberal; Republican and Democrat", etc. that is such a turn-off to many of us. Particulary those of us old enough to remember newsreel footage of blacks being pressure-washed by the likes of Bull Connor.

Either Coulter is ignorant or divisive. My money is on door #2.

As it should have. That's an ignorant statement.

I get what her intent was. Her wording was insensitive and ignorant.

"You like a lot of other older people...." Rough.

Back up. I didn't say her comment was intended to be a racist statement. I said her choice of words were insulting to blacks. I have nothing to use to judge her as being racist. Ignorant? Absolutely. Not racist though.

While being young and part of a generation that doesn't really have a lot of experience with racism (although many young blacks would disagree) I get where you're coming from. However, that same viewpoint IMO is why you dont understand how words like this can cause the hair on the back of a black person's neck to stand up.

I hope you and the young whippersnappers do get to a point in your life where race is not a factor. We're not close to being there yet.

PurplePride said that our blacks were not as impressive. Is he racist?

Not at all what he said. What he said was that the blacks in her party were not impressive. No hint at all of racism - there's a subtle (but big) difference between "our blacks" and "the blacks in her party". No ownership implied.

Possibly.

1866 isn't nowadays. Even 1964 and 1965 isn't nowadays. The Republican party of Lincoln isn't quite the same as the Republican party of Coulter. The Southern Democrat bloc of the middle 60s I would guess isn't quite the same either, I would speculate.

I was trying to get to the point that, IMO, sadly the black community is still heavily in poverty, high rates of unemployment, pregnancy rates are among the highest. Who have they voted for in the past 40-50 years? Their conditions have not changed. So my point is, the people they are voting in, are not doing what is best for them.

I'm going to ask you to pay attention. I didn't claim anyone was racist.

Clyde said he was stunned that 75center said he thought the blacks on....I don't want to say our....the side of us, were more impressive. purplepride said the same thing. I wasn't talking about Coulter's comment at this point. I agree with you though, I don't think that is racist.

I'm going to ask you to pay attention. I didn't claim anyone was racist.

So what threw you back or why were you stunned when 75 said that?

As I said previously, how in the world would one measure such a thing? That's why I was stunned.
