Final

The Purples made it 19 out of 19 against the Gators at the Swamp tonight. It was the single highest point total and the third highest win margin in the series. Several personal foul penalties against the Gators helped the cause. Sr QB Scooter Hollis threw for four TD passes in the first half (all to different receivers). Four rushing TDs led by Brandon Green's two.

Go Purples! Question: When did Greenwood start playing football? I know the school opened in the mid to late 1980s. Obviously if they started playing right away there have been some years that BG & Greenwood did not meet?

Greenwood opened in the fall of 1990. The only years they didn't play Bowling Green were 1990, 2009, and 2010.

 

Greenwood has only scored more than 12 points twice against Bowling Green. Not coincidentally, those are the only two times they've come close to Bowling Green, losing 25-21 in 1996 and 31-24 in 2004. Both times Bowling Green trailed at the half and entering the fourth quarter.

BG is really rolling. How good is the recent transfer they got from Missouri? Does he start?

It looks to me like Patterson dressed but did not play. Definitely doesn't start.

A bit of trivia about the 1996 game, which was the closest Greenwood ever came to beating BGHS. It was played in a driving rainstorm. The visitor's side of the field has a place where a lot of water can collect with no drainage. After that game, Gator Stadium started being referred to more commonly as the Swamp. They're quite proud of the nickname, and I don't blame them! It also happened to be the first Kevin Wallace coached BGHS team to play Greenwood.
