Bowling Green 21 Warren Central 0

Dominating defense by the Purples, as Central had trouble hanging on to the football. The Purples had more penalties tonight than in just about any other game this year to date, but that's a rivalry game for you. Sr RB Hunter Neveras scored twice on runs, and Sr QB Scooter Hollis was hit hard by three Dragons at the three yard line and still punched his way into the end zone, bringing the Purple crowd to their feet!

I congratulate the Dragons on a hard fought game tonight. The Purples just were not going to allow the Dragons to beat them three consecutive games for the first time ever.

BGHS seeks to take sole possession of the 5A District Two crown next week down Scottsville Road at Greenwood. Sic 'em, Purple!!:thumb::D

Too many turnovers for Central and too many missed opportunities in Purple territory. The Purples are simply too good to not cash in on deep drives or possessions that begin in their territory. The worst was the fumble on the 5 yard line with around a minute left in the half. WC appeared to be going in for what would have been a lead taking score with a successful PAT just before the half. It was large for momentum and even larger once BG went up 14-0. 14-0 with 10 minutes is very different from 14-7 with 10 minutes. The Dragons began to try to pass, had no success, and turned it over on their own 7.

The Purples defense was dominant, and the Purples offensive line was pretty successful in their own right. I was not pleased with the yardage Central gave up, but the defense was doing a good job of bending and not breaking. But the Purples kept the field position well in their favor and the Dragon D was asked to bail them out too many times. Bowling Green scored on drives that began at their own 46, the Central 35, and the Central 7. Very tough to stop the Purples on those short fields when they have one of the most potent offenses in the state.

Despite the miscues and the difficulty moving the ball, Central still trailed only 6-0 entering the fourth quarter, but that quarter belonged to the Purples. I think there's a good chance for Central to iron some things out and hopefully there could be a different outcome should they meet again. But no mistake, Bowling Green is as good as they appear. I just don't feel as doom and gloom as the score might suggest I should be.

Congratulations to Bowling Green, I didn't figure they would lose tonight.
