Hazard has all 9 starters back from last year. They have won the 14th the last 4 out of 5 years.

Estill has a strong core...I am sure if you asked the teams they beat in the state tournament last season if EC can play, they would all agree that Estil is the real deal.

There will be teams that can play with Estill, but they are very talented and well-coached. I think that however far they go is totally dependent on them...Great teams have bad games, hopefully theirs won't take place in at a crucial point in the tournaments...on another note, Coach Faulkner has the Lady Pirates playing well. They can make a difference in the 14th...Keep an eye on them!

Can't wait to see Hazard and Estill play in Region.

Its going to be interesting to say the least...and I really hope we see a Hazard/Estill game at some point.

They didn't play during the season, but maybe they'll meet in the region.

As a matter of fact, Estill only played 6 region games, and all of them were district opponents. Their record is 19-14 and 6-0 in the region. The Lady Engineers have played a very difficult schedule, and had some mid-season injuries, so their record is a little misleading.

Hazard has a record of 18-3 and is 15-1 in the region. It would have been interesting to see how they would have matched up against a little more stiffer competition from outside the region, but they no doubt have a powerful team.

Letcher Central has had a good season as well, with a 18-2 record and 12-0 in the region.

Strangely enough, these 3 schools did not play one another during the season:confused:

But they can't dodge each other now. The softball region should be very interesting indeed.

1. Estill County...10th region champs '05 (4th in state)

2. Hazard...14th region champs '05

3. Letcher Central... Whitesburg regional semi's, Letcher lost in first round

4. Breathitt County...always has a solid team, well coached

5. Powell County...regional runner-up

6. Lee County...always has a solid team, well coached

I'm really surprised no one has mentioned the Jackson City Lady Tigers. They have beat Breathitt 3 times, at least once in 5 innings and also beat Hazard on their way to becoming the All A Regional Champs. They get very little coverage but have very quietly in the last couple of years put together a solid team who can be competitive.
