Ryan Adams - Ashes & Fire

Have you listened to much Ryan Adams before this?

No.

Pretty good stuff huh? I will def have to check it out...

No.
I like almost everything he has done but I'd highly recommend Heartbreaker, Love is Hell, or Jacksonville City Nights. He also has an "unreleased album that is readily available on the internet called The Suicide Handbook. Actually, Ryan has almost as much unreleased stuff as released stuff. He used to be a very prolific artist.

Are there degrees of prolific?:D

When you are talking about Ryan Adams you have to stress it to make sure you realize just how prolific he was. In '05 he released three studio albums plus several other albums full of material that wasn't released.

I thought he retired?
He supposedly did but it now seems it was just a two year hiatus. He did have a medical issue though that he has now gotten under control.

How does it compare to his first two, Heartbreaker and Gold? Those are my two favorites. Nothing else he put out came close to those for my money.

I would say it compares very favorably too those two. It's not Heartbreaker, but then again basically nothing is Heartbreaker. But this is Ryan Adams back to his singer-songwriter roots---though a happier person. I think most Ryan Adams fans will enjoy this album a whole lot.
I LOVE Ryan Adams.

It was the summer of 69... Oh yeah. LOVE IT!

Wait...what?

Back in college, I went to a Ryan Adams show in Nashville at the Ryman where he BLEW HIS LID at some dude in the front of the audience who hollered for him to play "Summer of '69". He ended up pulling the wallet out of his own pocket, throwing it over to somebody off stage, and saying "grab 40 bucks out of there, go pay the {jerk} for his ticket, and tell him to get the {heck} out of my {dad-gum} show." The audience member was escorted out.

I haven't listened to this one yet. I hadn't really listened to any of his stuff since Easy Tiger. Honestly, I had kinda taken 29 and Easy Tiger as death rattles for Ryan Adams' relevance as a songwriter. I heard a total of maybe four cuts off of Cardinology and Orion, collective, and I wasn't impressed at all. I had a friend of mine insist on playing III/IV in its entirety one evening while we were having porch beers, and I think that kind of cinched me on Ryan Adams' musical demise.

Long story short(er), I guess I need to wash some of the bad taste out of my mouth before I give any of his new stuff.
