You can definitely make a case for Breathitt and they have done what they are supposed to do, but i don't think they have shown they deserve to be ranked ahead of Belfry. Both teams return a solid nucleus and Belfry was the defending 3A Runner Up.

 

Breathitt's 5 opponents are a combined 8-15 and really don't give much of a measuring stick with the exception of Somerset, who was ranked #2 in 2A at the time Breathitt faced them. That is an impressive win.

 

Belfry's 4 opponents are a combined 9-11. They beat 6A Henry Clay on the road by 14 and took a knee at the end to keep from scoring. They beat 2A #6 Prestonsburg on the road by 3 scores and they destroyed 1A #5 Pikeville by 40+.

 

Breathitt may earn that spot before the season is out, and their regular season record may end up being better than Belfry's, but right now, I'd have to give the edge to the Pirates. Breathitt will coast the rest of the way through their schedule if they beat Hazard tonight. Belfry will be really tested by Ashland and Johnson Central, not to mention district games with Sheldon Clark, Pike Central and Lawrence Co.

3A Jackson Co, 0-5

Belfry's wins

Looking at the whole picture, I can't see how you'd rank Breathitt ahead of Belfry at this point. With that said though, I haven't seen Breathitt play and I would like to hear from anyone who has seen them both.

 

I agree with everything you said. I can't see putting Breathitt ahead of Belfry with who they have played. I do think these 2 will see each other down the road and should be a dandy as it usually is. Does anyone know how the home field will play out this year. I thought someone said in another thread that Breahitt will have home field all the way up to the finals this year if they win out, but I really do not know?

Breathitt would have home field advantage through the first 3 rounds of the playoffs if they are a #1 seed.

 

The semifinals, though, will be hosted by Region 3 winner, as this is an odd year. So whoever wins our region will have to travel to Garrard, Russell, Mason Co, Powell Co, etc for the semifinals.

 

I'm like you, I feel these two will meet in the playoffs and it should be a great game. Region 4 has a lot of good teams in there and the first three playoff rounds could be very fun to watch.
