UK fball fan Posted September 10, 2011 Author Posted September 10, 2011 Mayfield's defense was once again stellar, holding the Tigers to 109 total yards for the game and only 66 rushing. The lone Tiger TD came on an int that ended up at the Cardinal 1 yd line. Even then, it took 4 plays to get it in the endzone. The Cardinals ran the ball for 167 yds and passed for 187 yds, so, they were very balanced there. Guhy ended up 10 for 15, 187 yds, 2 TDs and 1 int..Jackson had well over 150 yds and 2 TDs as well. Murray is a very fundamentally sound team with some good athletes and they make you earn everything you get, so, this is a very nice win for the Cardinals..
snakesnot_2000 Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Good win. I dont think we hit on all cylinders but it was a decent win. Murray runs a very vanilla offense, mainly just running the ball. The Qb for Murray throws a nice ball but they hardly let him throw. Nice win for us.
twenty4seven Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Great win for thr Cardinals tonight! I was surprised by the speed and size of the Murray players...but in the end, they had no answer for our offense or our defense. Great goal line stand by Mayfield when Jake threw the interception on his own 5 yard line and Murray got the ball at the 2 yard line...it took them 4 plays and they still just barely got in.
rookie57 Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Cardinals definately were not clicking on all cylinders tonight, but still a quality win against a fairly good Tiger team!
WHO'S NEXT? Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Tough spot for the Cards between the Tilghman game last week and cross town rival Graves Co. next week. I really think Murray deserves a top 10 spot in the BG Preps 2A poll, not real high, but a 9 or 10 placement. Maybe it's because Murray rarely finds themselves down by a lot of points or they don't have the offensive capability to crawl out of a deep hole, but they appeared to be satisfied with not being blown out as opposed to trying to win or keep this close. A grind it out, ball control offense will not win you any games when you are already behind by 4 touchdowns. No sense of urgency until the final drive of the game, way too late by then. Maybe they see 35 to 7 as some kind of moral victory after years of being led to the woodshed before this series took a break.
UK fball fan Posted September 10, 2011 Author Posted September 10, 2011 The thing is, the Deese kid has a cannon and they have several really good receivers, so, it's not like they couldn't be effective throwing the ball some. I understand they like to play smash mouth football, but, when you get behind by 3 or 4 scores, it doesn't bode well to stay in that clock grinding mode.
