Having watched Mercy last night I say they are not anywhere near number 2. Got no problem with Assumption on top.

Not even close. The team from 3 years ago was hands down better. Not only did they have the "Big 3", they had a great supporting cast. You don't need depth in volleyball nearly as much as in basketball. Doubtful any current player will get a D1 scholarship.

 

The team from a few years ago also beat teams regularly like Notre Dame and St. Henry. I don't see that happening currently.

Yes they are in a class by themselves. Assumption, also known as the club team KIVA, since almost all of their players play together year 'round in both school and club, will not be threatened this year, or anytime soon. I marvel and applaud their dominance.

 

It will take a rule change from the KHSAA to get them off track. Going to classes for Volleyball won't solve it because, well, they're beating everyone now anyway. It will take a rule like Ohio has, that HS teams are limited to the number of school players they can have from a single club team, to end this dynasty.

The Snyder girl could certainly play DI somewhere in the right program. I also think Kohls and Gruenschlaeger (excuse spelling) could play in college but I would think DII or DIII. The Kohls girl is very athletic and an explosive jumper, I could see some good DII programs having interest in her.

I'm not saying that they can't compete with or beat St. Henry or Notre Dame, truth is they haven't. In the last two years they have lost in straight sets to St. Henry on three occassions (0-2, 0-2 & 0-3) and never beaten them. They have not played Notre Dame because they haven't advanced to the Gold Division of either the LIVT or the Mercy Fall Classic.

I like all four players you mentioned and think that they could play somewhere in college. This is a very good NCC team, however, I don't think they compare with the three DI players (and don't forget Woods plays DIII) from 2009 group.

Again I disagree. Taylor Snyder is going to UC. They also have O'Day, Kohls, Gruenschlaeger, Froendhoff (who is unreal good!!), Vonhandorf, Sandhouse, and Corry. If that isn't a "supporting cast" I don't know what is. As I have said before, they are a talented and classy group of young ladies. I am not saying that Freppon, Schulte, Annie G, and Woods were anything but impressive, but didn't their "supporting cast" consist of this years seniors that I just mentioned??

One of the 3 D1 players that NCC had 3 years ago has had to quit volleyball because of persistant back problems . Gave up her scholarship .

I completely agree with your comments. I was just wondering why anyone thinks they haven't been able to beat St. Henry or advance in the tournaments, with this kind of talent.

I like that rule. It should be implemented in KY for all sports.

 

I also like this rule. But have you heard that KY is allowing high school coaches to coach their players in the club season as long as the coach has a letter from the principal.
