Baseball Tools

Featured Replies

Just a new topic (quiz) to kick around in the off season.

What are the 5 tools of a baseball player? Not all have the 5 tools. Only a few do have. Most players may only have 2 or three. So, what are the five tools.

No prize. Unless you want a used coffee cup. :D

1) Hitting for average

2) Hitting for power

3) Running Speed

4) Arm Strength

5) Fielding Ability

Alex Rodriguez, Ken Griffey, Jr are two that come to mind.

I knew that you would be the first to get this right. My used coffee cup is on it's way.

Bonds was one in his prime. ARod and Griffey Jr are two of the best.

Players with 4 out of the 5 that come to mind are Derek Jeter, Carlos Delgado, and Albert Pujos.

Ichiro is another with 4. Vlady is another 5 tool player. Andrew Jones could be another if his average improves just a little.

Thanks PD and...make sure it has coffee in it.

I agree on Bonds, a perfect example at one time.

I agree RNC and no reason Jones shouldn't hit for a better average. Once he does, than lookout.

Forgot about Ichiro. I doubt that Jones ever will be a 5 tool player. He'll need to do a lot of work to become one.

Ichiro is probably my favorite player, after Joe Morgan.

They both prove(ed) thay you dont have to be huge in stature to play the game and play it very well.

I know that Ichiro does not hit a lot of homers but I have heard that in BP that he can jack them out as well as anyone.

Those contacts are the ones made by Nike, I believe. I've heard a lot about the contacts. They have only been available to the pro players and just recently they were made available to the public. The price isn't to hefty either. Which is a surprise.

I have heard the same, that he could win any All Star Home Run contest.
