I just got home. It was kinda weird how they did it. However, I saw Belfry score 4 times, Boyd hadn't scored when I left.

What was weird?

They punted back and forth several times, then PAT/FG a couple of times. Then 10 plays apiece, then down and distance with markers. Just some long runs brought back during the 10 play segment brought back. Just a little scattered IMO. However, it was easy to see Belfry was a notch above.

I'm guessing the format was what was different.

 

 

Coach Haywood likes to conduct his scrimmages in a practice like manner moreso than game situation. Usually each team starts off doing some special teams work, field goals and punting, etc. Then each team would take turns starting on their own 20 and running 10 plays each, regardless of the results. Then they would alternate doing this 10 play thing for a few series. All during the scrimmage, coaches for each team will be on the field, in the huddles, etc.

 

Was it like this, spindoc?

I was posting the above and got a phone call before finishing. Didn't see spindoc's answer. Sounds like a typical Belfry scrimmage.

What kind of speed does Belfry have, spindoc?

 

What about defensive speed, pursuit to the ball?

 

While you were watching, what type of offense did they run mostly?

I'm anxious to see Belfry this season. They were in over their head the last time we saw them but you could tell potential was there (they were just a year early). Could be a strong year on Pond Creek.

 

Also, do Belfry people still reference Pond Creek since the school moved?!

From what I saw, I thought they had at least 3 kids who could really run. Team speed was good. In the first series Boyd on O and Belfry on D, Boyd had some solid runs between the tackles, Belfry had some holes in their pass D, Boyd completed a few but dropped a couple more open looks. But that's about the only knick I saw in them at all. AFter things got a bit more comfortable with the kids, Belfry really stuffed the run. On O, Belfry was really solid running the ball, they easily got the edge on the sweep. And they even passed the ball ok, also had a couple of drops. If there was something Belfry did poorly, it was punt. The place kicker mashed a few. He has some range.

The school moved, but only a couple miles further down the creek, so yeah the Pond Creek Nation lives on, lol.
