It was official this morning. Matthew Yates is the new head coach at Frankfort.

 

It is a great hire finally someone who relates well and understands the community. Also believe it is someone that understands the requirements of the job and has a willingness to work at it.

Coach Yates is a good coach and even better human being. He was an assistant at Union when my son was playing there. I want to wish him and Frankfort well.

I think Coach Yates will do well at Frankfort. Obviously it will be difficult for them to have much regional success but they could easily be a consistent All A winner. I always thought he did a much better job at Danville than the people gave him credit for and I suspect he will get a little more appreciation at home.

 

By the way, if you haven't seen him coach you will be in for a surprise. Yates talks constantly, to the refs, his players, and the opposing coaches, fussing and congratulating all at the same time. It's like he has no inner monologue - he says what's on his mind and then seems to forget it almost as soon as he says it. As someone who has been at the scorers table for many of his games I can assure you he will have you laughing constantly.

I'll give Frankfort this, that's a quick turnaround on a hire. They needed a coach, they found a coach.

 

No posting the job for 30 days stuff, no multiple interviews, no mulling over the possibilities and hee hawing around. The administration obviously had an idea of what they were looking for, had a chance to land that person, and acted swiftly.

I know the list was short. When Wise was talking about leaving administration started reaching out. Didn't want it to go past Aug.15th and not have a coach.

I'm not too sure that Frankfort, for their needs, didn't even improve their coaching situation. Now that is progression! Short notice leave with a better hire!

Only time will tell.......
